Board says GHEC is thriving

GRANADA — On Thursday evening, the board meeting gathered to discuss summer plans, post-graduation information, and plans for the following school year.

The board members shared PSEO plans and qualifications. Students must have a 3.0 GPA or higher to enroll in PSEO options provided by the GHEC East Chain.

Activities coordinator Erin Roiger shared numbers of registered students from middle and high school grades. There were no registered students for cross country. She explained activities had no significant change, but hopes to speak with another individual for changes with Track and Field A fall sports meeting will commence in August.

A new phone policy was prevented, as well as specific ‘punishments’ who do not heed the policy of no phones, from having a parent/guardian fetch the device from the office to having a two-month phone suspension plan put into action by the school. The board noted phone pouches that can lock to limit phone usage class.

The board also noted about a new idea to have cameras inside of the classroom. The board says that, “It wouldn’t be to monitor classroom performance, but to monitor student behavior.” The board said they received mostly positive feedback after presenting the idea.

The board wants to push the idea of a broader syllabus to assist teachers with their respective classes, and provide students the run-down of what agenda they will have while in class.

Two interviews will commence for one Social Studies teacher and one English teacher.
