East Chain church plans coffee party
East Chain United Methodist Church will host its monthly community coffee party from 8:30-11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at the church in East Chain. They will serve rolls, coffee, tea and juice. Free will offering. Come visit with neighbors, everyone is welcome.
Garden Club to host Saturday garden party & plant swap
As part of the Interlaken Heritage Days festival, City of Lakes Garden Club will be hosting its annual FREE Garden Party & Plant Swap from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, in the open shelter at Lincoln Park, 1300 N. North Ave. in Fairmont. A garden party and plant swap is a great
way to expand your garden and it's free. The purpose of a garden party is to gather with other garden lovers, plant parents, and bring one or many items to trade. You may take home as many items as you bring to the party. If you bring 3 items, you may take home 3 different items. If you bring a plant/bulbs or seeds, please label your item(s) with the name
of plant and your name. If there is special information to share about the plant, such as growing conditions, color, size, etc. please include that also. It is fun to remember who your new plant came from. They will also have crafts for kids, a silent auction of garden-related items, door prizes (be sure to check-in/register to get your entry slip), as well as light refreshments.
Church on the Lawn in East Chain
"Church on the Lawn" services will start up again beginning 10:30 a.m. Sunday, June 9, at East Chain Evangelical Free Church, located three miles east of the village of East Chain. he speaker will be Pastor Ben Fox, Pastor of East Chain Ev. Free Church. The service includes live band worship, bible teaching and wonderful kids program. Prior to the service, donuts and coffee will be served at 10 a.m. Bring your lawn chair and a friend. The public is welcome. In case of inclement weather, they will meet inside the church.
CREST "Lunch & Learn" coming to Fairmont
The 1975 murder of Joann Bontjes in Martin County has never been solved but law enforcement officials are keeping the case open with the help of some outside assistance. The next CREST Lunch & Learn will take place 11 a.m. Monday, June 10, at the CREST office, 820 Winnebago Ave. in Fairmont. The program will feature retired St. James police chief Don Mickelson, who has been researching the case for many years and has helped local officials get closer to solving it. A lunch of meatballs, scalloped potatoes and a rhubarb dessert will follow the program. If you plan to attend this event, please RSVP the CREST office by calling (507) 235-3833. This activity is open to seniors in Martin County and a free-will donation is always welcome.
Martin Luther to hold art camp next week
A Summer Art Camp for elementary students will be held June 10, 12 and 13 at Martin Luther Jr/Sr High School in Northrop. Morning sessions for grades 1-4 will be held 9:30-11:30 a.m. while afternoon camp for grades 5-9, will be held 12:30-2:30 p.m. The cost is $50. The instructor is Kim Koppen.
