Fairmont places 3rd at State Speech Tournament

FAIRMONT –The MSHSL Class A State Speech Tournament was held Friday, April 19, at Shakopee High School in Shakopee, Minn.

In team standings, Fairmont placed 3rd with 42 points, 2nd place was Melrose with 45 points and the 1st place team was Mounds Park Academy with 53 points.

Fairmont’s Championship final round winners were:

Junior Alayna Haefner is the State Champion in Original Oratory; Freshman Leon Yang is the State Champion in Humorous Interpretation; Junior Dominick Lund-May takes 2nd place in Extemporaneous Speaking; Sophomore Bel Lutterman takes 2nd Place in Original Oratory; Junior Kelsey Hunter takes 3rd Place in Informative Speaking; and Juniors Grace Simpson and Oliver Thedens take 3rd Place in Duo Interpretation.

The last time that Fairmont Speech won a state plaque was in 2021 taking 2nd place in the online speech year. We are very proud of our Fairmont Speech team. Please congratulate the team this week.

Next is their road to Nationals. They already have Grace and Oliver in Duo and Leon in Humorous. They have their Last Chance Qualification Tournament this weekend. These students will be vying for a spot at Nationals to join Grace, Oliver, and Leon: Bel Lutterman, Dominick Lund-May, Thomas Hamlet, Isaac Thomas, Clark Hazard and Allie Streit.
