Speech team wins final regular season tournament

FAIRMONT — On April 6, 2024, the Fairmont Speech Team competed at their last speech tournament of the regular season in the “Last Chance” Speech Tournament at Jordan High School. Fairmont took 1st place with 142 points in the Big School Team Sweepstakes.

Individual champions include: Senior Abi Peyman in Great Speeches; Senior Andrew Haefner in

Extemporaneous Speaking; Senior Sydney Blomster in Informative Speaking; Senior Isaiah Lockwood in Original Oratory; Juniors Grace Simpson and Oliver Thedens in Duo Interpretation; and Junior Zoey Tasseff in Poetry.

2nd place winners include: Senior Isaiah Lockwood in Great Speeches; Junior Dominick Lund-May in Extemporaneous Speaking; Junior Grace Simpson in Dramatic Interpretation; Junior Oliver Thedens in Extemporaneous Reading; Junior Kelsey Hunter in Informative Speaking; and Sophomore Bel Lutterman in Original Oratory.

3rd place winners include: Junior Zoey Tasseff in Creative Expression; and Sophomore Bel Lutterman in Prose.

4th place winners include: Sophomore Thomas Hamlet in Humorous Interpretation; Freshman Clark Hazard in Extemporaneous Speaking; and Freshman Annie Reyelts and 8th grader Evan Reyelts in Duo Interpretation.

5th place winners include: Freshman Allie Streit in Prose; and Freshman Leon Yang in Humorous Interpretation.

6th place winners include: Sophomore Dhanvi Patel in Drama Interpretation; Sophomore Levi

Loughmiller in Great Speeches; 8th grader Bella Coan and 7th grader Georgia Werre in Duo Interpretation; and 7th grader Sophia Streit in Storytelling.

Fairmont Speech competes next on Friday, April 12, at the MSHSL Section 2A Speech Tournament at JWP High School in Janesville. The top three individuals in each speech category will advance to the MSHSL Class A Speech Tournament on Friday, April 19, at Shakopee High School in Shakopee. The Fairmont Speech Team is coached by Kathleen Walker, Erik Walker and Miles Duffey.
