Community Day set for April 13

CEYLON — There will be a communion service starting 5:30 p.m. tonight, April 6, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Ceylon. Our Savior’s also invites area residents to Bible Study at 9:30 a.m. each Tuesday morning. The next evening service is scheduled for April 20.

The Martin County West Drama Club will present their spring play entitled “One Stoplight Town” by Tracy Wells. The play is at 7 p.m. tonight, April 6 and 1 p.m. Sunday, April 7, at the Sherburn Theatre. Tickets are available at the door for $7 and $5 for students. Children younger than 7th grade must be accompanied by an adult. The director is Alaina Baker and the student director is Ryelynn Forsberg.

Circle of Faith Parishes will celebrate Rogation Sunday when blessings for the coming planting season are prayed for. The 9 a.m. service will be at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon, where they will continue to collect for Heaven’s Table Food Shelf. The 10:30 a.m. Sunday service will be at Waverly Lutheran Church north of Welcome. Area residents are welcome to join them.

Condolences to the families of John Schmidtke, a long-time resident of Ceylon and WWII veteran who was very active in the community and the American Legion in Ceylon, and Ken Reiman, former resident of Ceylon, active community member and area contractor. They will both be missed by

friends and family.

Ceylon City Council is scheduled to meet 6 p.m. Monday, April 9, at Ceylon City Hall. There is always a time for public comments and questions at the beginning of each meeting. To be on the regular agenda, please contact the city hall prior to the date of the meeting by calling (507) 632-4653.

Monday, April 9, is also the deadline to contact Linda Bakke with information about your rummage sale planned for April 13th weekend when the 89th annual Ceylon Community Day will be held. Tuesday coffee hours for April continue from 8:30-10 a.m. on April 9, at Sinn Family Celebration of Life facility in Trimont. Join friends and neighbors for good coffee, goodies and great fellowship. The Coffee Lovers group in Ceylon also meet 8:30-10 a.m. every Thursday in the back room of the Lake Belt Bar and Grill.

Congratulations to Allen and Lorna Bremer of rural Ceylon/Wilbert area who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 5. Cards will reach them at 1708 40th Street, Ceylon, MN 56121. Our wish is for many more anniversaries.

April 13 is the date for the last cribbage tournament at the Welcome Legion Hall in Welcome. Play begins at 1:30 p.m. They will resume playing in October.

Martin Luther High School in Northrop will have their spring HUGE rummage and bake from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, April 11, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, April 12 and a bag sale day from 8 a.m. to noon on April 13. A bag full of items costs $3. The sale is located in the gym at Martin Luther High School in Northrop.

St. Paul’s Lutheran LWML ladies group, will meet 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 11. All members are urged to attend. The Wilbert congregation is collecting non-perishable food items for the Faribault Food Shelf that will be collected at the LWML Spring Mission Gathering/Rally on April 16 as ‘Gifts from the Heart.’ They ask that the items be brought in by April 14. Suggested items are listed in their bulletin.

Sherburn Fire Relief Association will have a pancake breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday, April 7, at the fire hall in Sherburn.

The Friendship Club from St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn invites area residents to join them for lunch at 11 a.m. Monday, April 8, at The Still Bar and Grill in Dunnell.

The American Red Cross will have blood drives on April 10 at Truman High School, on April 12 at the Legion in Fairmont and April 22 at Martin Luther High School in Northrop. The Ceylon Area Historical Society Museum will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Community Day, April 13. The museum is across from the post office in the back of the brick building. Enter on the east side of the building.
