Referendum open house April 4, 29

SHERBURN — The month of March went out with cold rainy weather and Mother Nature gave

everyone an April Fools with the cold rain on Monday. Hope all had a pleasant Easter. The farmland could sure use the rain.

CREST will have a Lunch and Learn program about games which will begin 11 a.m. today, April 3, at the Sherburn Senior Center. After the program, they will have a lunch of baked potato bar and a dessert. These Lunch and Learn programs are free to anyone in Martin County. A free will donation for the lunch is appreciated.

The Sherburn Legion will have their ‘Hamburger Night’ from 6-8 p.m. tonight, April 3. A burger, salad and baked beans will be served for only $10. The Sherburn Legion will meet 8 p.m. on April 9 and they are also planning a Steak Fry Night on April 13. Mark your calendars and plan to attend.

St. Luke’s Catholic Church members are reminded that they will be on their spring/summer

schedule from April to June with services at 10:30 a.m. on Sundays during that time. Circle of Faith parishes will have Sunday services at 9 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon and 10:30 a.m. services at Waverly Lutheran Church north of Welcome for the month of April.

Celebration of Life Center in Trimont. Join friends and neighbors for coffee, goodies and fellowship.

Martin County West School District will have a referendum election on May 14 with polling places in Dunnell, Sherburn, Trimont and Welcome. To help the voters be informed voters the school district has scheduled two community information open houses from 5-7 p.m. on both April 4 and April 29 at the high school in Sherburn. Come any time and ask questions. The website, martin.k12.mn.us also has information which includes a calculator for finding what the tax impact on property is expected to be. At the meetings, all the people working on this project will be present to share information and answer questions, including school district personnel, architect and construction manager. Attendees will also have the opportunity to have a guided tour of the building to see the challenges and explore the possibilities of the construction. Anyone can email questions to buildingproject@mcmavericks.org and they will be answered.

There is a benefit planned for Greg Geerdes from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at Triumph Hall in Trimont.

The Sherburn Fire Department Relief Association has a pancake brunch planned from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday, April 7, at the fire hall in Sherburn. The cost will be a free will donation to help the fire department with equipment expenses.

Mayo Mobile Clinic is scheduled to be in Sherburn from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, April 8, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, near the city hall building. To make an appointment, call the appointment line at (507) 238-8500 and mention the Sherburn Clinic.

Monday, April 8, is also the date the Friendship Club from St. John’s Lutheran Church will be meeting for lunch at 11 a.m. at The Still Bar and Grill in Dunnell. Area residents are welcome to join them for fellowship over lunch and need not be members at St. John’s Church. They plan to order from the menu.

There will be meetings to inform residents of the upcoming construction of Highway 4 which is scheduled to begin in April through August, weather permitting. The April 9 meeting will be held 4-6 p.m. at Triumph Hall in Trimont, and the April 11 meeting is scheduled for 4-6 p.m. at the Sherburn Senior Center, near the city hall in Sherburn. Staff from MnDOT and the contractor will be available to answer questions. There will be no formal presentation and attendees may come and go anytime. The project includes resurfacing 25 miles of roadway from Sherburn to St. James, replacing Cedar Run bridge and repairing several bridges, and improving pedestrian accommodations in Trimont and Sherburn.

Ruby’s Pantry will have a grocery distribution from 5:30-7 p.m. on April 15 at the parking lot of the Regional Worship Center just south of I-90 in Sherburn.

American Red Cross blood drives in April will be held April 10 at Truman High School, on April 12 at the American Legion in Fairmont, and on April 22 at Martin Luther High School in Northrop.
