CEYLON — Congratulations to Lola Schultze from the Wilbert area who turned 90 years old

The Ceylon area was saddened by the passing of one of the City’s well regarded citizens, Kathryn Detert. She will be missed by friends and family. Also, our condolences to the family of Arlys Malo, a former Ceylon resident. She will be missed.

This coming week is traditionally known as Holy Week since it is the week before Easter, which is March 31 this year. Area churches have special services planned for this week. St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert will have a Maundy Thursday service at 6:30 p.m. with communion, and a Good Friday service at 6:30 p.m. St. Paul’s dual congregation in Sherburn will have a Maundy Thursday service at 6 p.m. and a Good Friday service at 6 p.m. Circle of Faith parishes will gather for a Maundy Thursday communion service at 7 p.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon and on Good Friday they will gather for a 7 p.m. service at First Lutheran Church in Trimont. All area residents are welcome to join these congregations for Lenten worship services.

The non-profit group, Helping Hands of Ceylon, will have an Easter event from 1-3 p.m. on March 30 at the Old City Hall across the street from the post office in Ceylon. This fun time is open to all ages. Cookies and juice will be available and the Easter Bunny will pass out treat bags and be available for photos. Hop on over for some fun.

American Red Cross blood drives continue from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on March 29 at Live Fit Gym in Fairmont, and 12:30-6:30 p.m. on April 1, at Sinn Family Celebration of Life facility in Trimont. Celebrate life by saving a life (or three) with a donation of your blood. Each body has around 10 pints and a donation is about 1 pint. Thank you.

Easter services at St. Paul’s in Wilbert are scheduled for 8 a.m. followed by a breakfast. Circle of Faith parishes will gather at Waverly at 7:30 a.m. and then breakfast.

Upcoming April events are:

• WELCA women from St. Peter Lutheran Church will meet 1:30 p.m. on April 3. St. Peter will collect money and items for Heaven’s Table at church services during April.

• Tuesday coffee hours in April will begin 8:30-10 a.m. each Tuesday at Sinn Family Celebration of Life in Trimont.

• Martin Luther High School will hold its annual Spring Rummage Sale April 11 through April 13.

• Ceylon Community Day auction and rummage sales will take place on April 13.

• One last cribbage tournament will be held April 13 at the Welcome Legion. They will then resume

in October.
