Kindergarten screening March 1

SHERBURN — This week is School Bus Driver Appreciation Week. Thank you to those who deliver our children safely.

Load restrictions begin on township and County roads this week. Each single axle is permitted up to 10,000 pounds.

Condolences to the families of Sarah Hansen, Leola Brownlee and Cynthia “Cindi” Crissinger, who all have relatives near Sherburn. They will be missed by friends and family.

Conference play for basketball begins this week with games at St. Peter for girls basketball. Watch for further information on conference games. Martin County West will have Spring Break from March 28 to April 2. Indoor walking at all school buildings runs from 6-7 a.m. and 4-5:30 p.m. The Trimont School will be the site for a lyceum entitled War of the Currents which is an outreach program from the Bakken Museum beginning 1 p.m. on March 1. This is an entertaining and educational audience participation story about electricity and engineering with games and demonstrations and experiments guaranteed to send sparks flying. This lyceum is paid for by Federated Rural Electric Association and Great River Energy companies. On March 1, the students in grades 3-6 from Trimont School should be full of stories about what happened at school that day.

Before students enter kindergarten the State requires a developmental screening including vision, hearing, growth, immunization status, thinking skills, communication, motor skills and social/emotional development. Martin County West will have that screening on March 1 at the Sherburn Elementary School building. Call (507) 764-2336 for further information.

The Sherburn Theatre will again feature the movie ‘Ordinary Angels’ this weekend March 1-3. Show times are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday.

The Sherburn Lions Club will have a pancake brunch fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday, March 3, in the cafeteria at Sherburn High School. The menu will include pancakes, syrup, scrambled eggs, sausage and juice for a free will donation to raise funds for the Sherburn Festival parade. The Lions also collect used eyeglasses and they can be brought to the brunch site.

Next Monday is the first Monday of March so the Friendship Club from St. John’s Lutheran Church will meet at 2 p.m. for coffee and goodies if you have some to share at the church. Area residents are welcome to join them for coffee and fellowship.

Midweek Lenten services continue with 6 p.m. services at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn, with lunch to follow. Circle of Faith parishes meet for a meal at 6 p.m. followed by 7 p.m. services at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome. The meal is a fundraiser for the youth group.

Ruby’s Pantry grocery distribution will be held 5:30-7 p.m. on March 18 in the parking lot of the Regional Worship Center in Sherburn, just south of I-90. Cost is $25 for a trunk full of groceries. No income or residential guidelines are used.

March will be next week. There are American Red Cross blood drives scheduled for March 8 at Fairmont High School, on March 28 at St. John Vianney Church in Fairmont and March 29 at Live Fit Gym in Fairmont.
