‘Maverick Minds’ runs through April

SHERBURN — There will be a Lunch & Learn sponsored by CREST beginning 11 a.m. today, Feb. 21, at First Lutheran Church in Trimont, followed by a light lunch. These educational and interesting programs are free to anyone in Martin County. A free will donation is appreciated for the lunch.

There will be ‘Hamburger Night’ from 6-8 p.m. tonight, Feb. 21, at the Sherburn Legion. Get a hamburger, salad and beans for only $10. Sounds so good. The Sherburn Legion will also help the senior class trip with a steak, shrimp or pork chop supper fundraiser from 5-8:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24. Choose one of the main entrees along with baked potato, salad bar and garlic toast all for just $25. For more information, contact the senior class trip advisor, Carter Wille, at (507) 399-5325. Good food for a good cause.

Condolences to the family of Bruce Haugen who passed away recently. He will be missed.

The Sherburn Theatre will be featuring the movie ‘Ordinary Angels’ this weekend, Feb. 23-25. Show times at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Midweek Lenten services at local churches continue with 6 p.m. service at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn, followed by a lunch. Circle of Faith parishes will meet at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome for 7 p.m. services, with a meal at 6 p.m. served by the youth group as a fundraiser for expenses for their trip to their summer gathering.

There will be an FFA Appreciation Breakfast for FFA members and their parents, school staff and businesses that have supported the MCW FFA group beginning at 6 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 22. Parent-teacher conferences will be held 4-8 p.m. in all buildings. There is also a Book Fair in the elementary school library. The senior trip meeting will be held that evening also.

On Friday, Feb. 23, there will be a boys basketball game vs. St. Clair in Trimont. Conference basketball games will be beginning soon. On Tuesday, Feb. 27, there will be Knowledge Bowl at 8 a.m. in Mankato. The track teams will go to an indoor track meet on April 1 at MSU Mankato and softball and baseball games will not be far away. Is that a sign of spring?

There has been an after-school program called Maverick Minds to help with math and science that runs through the month of April. Contact the Trimont School if interested. Early Childhood Screening is also Scheduled for March 1. This should be done before enrolling in kindergarten. Contact the Early Childhood group at (507) 764-2336. Call that number also if interested in becoming the Summer Ball Coordinator.

There will be an American Red Cross blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. on Feb. 26, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ on Dugan Street in Welcome. There will be also be a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 27, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Memory CafÈ will meet 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, at the Temperance Lake Ridge facility in Sherburn. This is for caregivers, family and anyone wanting to help patients with dementia.

Mayo Mobile Clinic will be in Sherburn from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26 and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, near the city hall building. Call the appointment number, (507) 238-8500 and mention the Sherburn Mobile Clinic.

Since this last Monday was President’s Day, the Martin County West School Board changed their meeting to 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 26, in the board room at the elementary school.

Mark your calendars: The Sherburn Lions Club will have a pancake breakfast from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on March 3, at the high school in Sherburn. This will be a fundraiser for the Sherburn Summer Festival parade. Plan to attend.
