Fairmont Speech wins Scarlet Invitational

FAIRMONT — Twenty-two members of the Fairmont Speech Team competed at the “Scarlet Invitational” Speech Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 17, hosted by Mankato West High School.

In team sweepstakes results, Fairmont took 1st place with 141 points; Mankato West took 2nd place with 89 points; and St. Clair took 3rd place with 73 points.

For individual varsity division results, Senior Sydney Blomster was the champion in Informative Speaking; Junior Zoey Tasseff took 3rd place in Creative Expression; Junior Grace Simpson was the champion in Dramatic Interpretation; Juniors Grace Simpson and Oliver Thedens were the champions in Duo Interpretation; Junior Oliver Thedens took 2nd place in Extemporaneous Reading; Junior Dominick Lund-May was the Champion in Extemporaneous Speaking, while Freshman Clark Hazard took 2nd place and Senior Andrew Haefner took 5th place; Senior Isaiah Lockwood was the champion and Senior Abi Peyman took 3rd place in Great Speeches; Sophomore Thomas Hamlet took 4th place in Humorous Interpretation; Junior Alayna Haefner was the champion and Sophomore Bel Lutterman took 2nd place in Original Oratory; and Sophomore Bel Lutterman took 3rd place and Freshman Allie Streit took 5th place in Prose.

For individual novice division results, 8th grader Adriana Leiding took 3rd place in Discussion; Freshman Norah Heille took 4th place in Dramatic Interpretation; Freshman Allie Streit took 3rd place in Extemporaneous Reading; Junior Isaac Thomas took 3rd place in Humorous Interpretation; and Freshman Norah Heille was the champion in Prose.

Fairmont Speech competes next week at Mankato East High School in Mankato, Minn. The Fairmont Speech Team is coached by Kathleen Walker, Erik Walker and Miles Duffey.
