FAIRMONT -- Twenty-three members of the Fairmont Speech Team competed at the "Crusader Classic" Speech Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 10, hosted by Mankato Loyola Catholic School.
In team sweepstakes results, Fairmont took 1st place with 88 points; Mankato West took 2nd place with 86 points and St. Clair took 3rd place with 68 points.
For individual varsity division results, Junior Zoey Tasseff was the champion in Creative Expression; Junior Oliver Thedens took 2nd place in Extemporaneous Reading; Junior Dominick Lund-May was the champion in Extemporaneous Speaking, while Senior Andrew Haefner took 4th place and Sophomore Levi Loughmiller took 5th place; Senior Isaiah Lockwood was the champion in Great Speeches while Senior Abi Peyman took 2nd place; Freshman Leon Yang took 4th place and Sophomore Thomas Hamlet took 5th place in Humorous Interpretation; and Junior Alayna Haefner was the champion in Original Oratory.
For individual novice division results, 8th grader Adriana Leiding took 2nd place in Discussion; Freshman Norah Heille took 5th place in Dramatic Interpretation; Junior Isaac Thomas took 4th place and Freshman Gabbie Thoeny took 5th place in Humorous Interpretation; Freshman Norah Heille took 2nd place in Prose; and 8th grader Michelle Esquivel took 3rd place in Storytelling.
Fairmont Speech competes next week at the "Scarlet Invitation" and Mankato West High School in Mankato, Minn. The Fairmont Speech Team is coached by Kathleen Walker, Erik Walker and Miles Duffey.
