WELCOME -- There will be an American Red Cross blood drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, Feb. 9, at the Fairmont American Legion, 300 Downtown Plaza in Fairmont. There will be also be blood drives from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, and noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, at the Best Western in Fairmont, as well as blood drives on Feb. 27 at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont and the Lewisville Legion. Blood is urgently needed so give if you are able.

Summer Festival committee will hold a Burger Bash fundraiser from 5:30-7 p.m. tonight, Feb. 9, at the Welcome Legion Hall. Proceeds will help the committee book fun events for the Welcome Summer Festival which is scheduled for July 19-21. Check out their Facebook post for menu items and prices.

There will be cribbage tournaments, Saturday, Feb. 10 and on Feb. 17, at the Welcome Legion Hall. Registration begins at 1:15 p.m. with play getting underway at 1:30 p.m. Anyone who enjoys playing cribbage is welcome. Registration fees are paid back 100 percent in prizes. They plan to have these tournaments the second and third Saturdays each month until Spring. Sounds like a fun afternoon.

Welcome Fire Department Relief Association will have a pancake brunch fundraiser from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday, Feb. 11, at the Welcome Legion Hall. Pancakes, sausage, fried potatoes and beverages are on the menu for a free will donation. Support the local Fire Department Relief Association. If you are not able to attend but wish to donate please write checks to Welcome Fire Department Relief Association and mail it to Box 373, Welcome, MN 56181.

The Lake Promenaders Square Dance Club will meet to dance beginning 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, at the Shaw home at 804 West First Street in Welcome. Anyone who enjoys square dancing or wants to learn more about it are encouraged to come.

Condolences to the family of Vernon Rosenberg who passed away recently. Vernon and Elaine were active Legion members in Welcome. He will be missed by friends and family.

Welcome Legion members will meet 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12, at the Legion Hall. All members are urged to attend the meeting.

Valentine's Day is on Feb. 14, and also the beginning of the Lenten season, Ash Wednesday. Area churches are planning special services that day and midweek services during Lent. On Ash Wednesday, Circle of Faith parishes will meet 7 p.m. at Waverly Lutheran Church north of Welcome. The other midweek Lenten services will all be held 7 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome, with a meal served by the youth group at 6 p.m. each Wednesday during Lent. St Luke's Catholic Church in Sherburn will have Ash Wednesday service at 8:30 a.m. on Feb. 14. Area residents are welcome to join any of these churches for services.
