Burger Bash fundraiser Friday
SHERBURN — There will be a Lunch & Learn program beginning 11 a.m. today, Feb. 7, at the Sherburn Senior Center near the city hall, with a salute to chocolate. Following the program a light lunch of barbecues, Tuscany soup, Valentine cookies and ice cream will be served. This activity is open free to anyone in Martin County. A free will donation for the lunch is appreciated.

Tonight, Feb. 7, there will be ‘Hamburger Night’ from 6-8 p.m. at the Sherburn Legion. Also, the Sherburn Legion will hold a steak fry night on Saturday, Feb. 10. The Sherburn Legion meeting will be held 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13. All members are encouraged to attend.

Condolences to the families of Joseph “Marty” Rettig and Vernon Rosenberg who recently passed away. They will be missed by friends and family.

There will be an American Red Cross blood drive from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today, Feb. 7, at
Armstrong Iowa High School and there will be drives on Feb. 8 and Feb. 9 at Our Savior Church in Jackson. There will be a blood drive in Fairmont from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9 at the American Legion, 300 Downtown Plaza, and later there will be drives on Feb. 13 and 14 at Fairmont’s Best Western. There will be a Burger Bash fundraiser for the Welcome Summer Festival from 5:30-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, at the Welcome Legion Hall. Check out the menu on their Facebook post.
The Welcome Festival will be held July 19-21 this year.

St. John’s Lutheran will be helping pack Kids Against Hunger bags at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Fairmont National Guard Armory. The Friendship Club from St. John’s Church will be meeting 11 a.m. on Feb. 12 at the Pizza Ranch in Fairmont and invite area
residents to join them. Note the change of date.

The ladies from St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn quilt every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and have donated many quilts to area people in need. They appreciate the donation of material from Valerie Smith, owner of the Old Alley Quilt Shop in Sherburn.
They welcome all who would be interested in sewing with them. Thank you for your service ladies.

Sherburn Theatre will not have a movie this weekend, Feb. 9-11. Watch for further information about Feb. 16-18. They hope to have Ordinary Angels on Feb. 23-35.

Valentine’s Day is on Feb. 14 which is also Ash Wednesday, the first day of the Lenten Season. Area churches are planning special services. St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn will have midweek services at 6 p.m. each Wednesday with a lunch after the service. On Ash Wednesday, their 6 p.m. service will also have communion. St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn will have Ash Wednesday services at 8:30 a.m. Circle of Faith parishes will have Ash Wednesday services at 7 p.m. at Waverly Lutheran Church north of Welcome, and all the midweek services will be held at Trinity in Welcome with a meal
served at 6 p.m. by the youth group and services at 7 p.m. each Wednesday.

In Martin County West news: Congratulations to the wrestling coach, Adam Williamson, who racked up his 200th win last week. The students are working on winter sports and events. Thursday, Feb. 8, there will be a Knowledge Bowl in Mankato and at night there will be a girls basketball game at Sherburn vs. Cleveland at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Feb. 10, the girls and boys basketball will play in Trimont for the Karson Janssen Memorial Hoops for Heart vs. GHEGT-ML. B squads will play at 3 p.m., the girls varsity at 5:45 p.m. and the boys
varsity at 7 p.m. This will also include many fundraiser events for heart education. On Monday, Feb. 12, the boys basketball team will play a game vs. Loyola at 7 p.m. in Trimont. The girls basketball team will play at Blue Earth at 7:30 p.m. and the boys hockey team will battle Luverne beginning 7 p.m. at the Fairmont Arena. On Tuesday, Feb. 13, the CER will have a Blanket Making Day. There is also indoor walking from 6-7 a.m. and 4-5:30 p.m. on school days at MCW schools. And, there is adult recreational basketball from 7-9 p.m. Wednesdays at the Trimont school gym.
