Healing Hearts open house Saturday
SHERBURN — Wow… Today is the last day of January already. An American Red Cross blood drive will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 9 at at the American Legion, 300 Downtown Plaza in Fairmont. To find blood drives near you and/or to make an appointment, call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767), go online to www.redcrossblood.org or text BLOODAPP to 90999 to make an appointment. There is an urgent need for blood at this time so give if you are able. Thank you.

There will be an open house for the newly remodeled home in Sherburn that will house the Healing Hearts Recovery participants from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 3.

St. John’s Lutheran Church members are reminded hat there will be a voter’s meeting at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 4. Members are urged to attend.

Circle of Faith parishes will have Sunday services in February at 9 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon and 10:30 a.m. at Waverly Lutheran Church north of Welcome. St. Peter and Waverly will also have their annual meetings after the services on Feb. 4.

Sherburn Theatre will feature the Smokey and the Bandit movie this weekend, Feb. 2 to Feb. 4. Show times are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday.

CREST will sponsor a caregiver support group meeting at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5, at Trinity Lutheran in Trimont. This is for family and caregivers of patients with dementia.

CREST will also have a Lunch & Learn program beginning 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, at the Sherburn Senior Center by the city hall building followed by a light lunch. These educational and interesting programs are free to anyone in Martin County. A free will donation is appreciated for the lunch.

Wednesday, Feb. 7 is also the night the Sherburn Legion has their ‘Hamburger Night’ from 5 to 8 p.m. Get a burger, salad and baked beans for only $10. Sounds yummy.

Martin County West School athletes will be meeting in February beginning with the gymnastics team to meet Pipestone at 6 p.m. tonight, Feb. 1, with the boys basketball
team traveling to St. Clair for a 7 p.m. game. The Fairmont Arena will hold a girls hockey game vs. Rochester Mayo at 7 p.m. The boys hockey team will battle Waseca at 7 p.m.
On Saturday, Feb. 2, there will be a wrestling conference meet 10 a.m. at Jackson and the girls basketball team will play Alden-Conger in Sherburn. On Monday, Feb. 5, the girls basketball will travel to Madelia for a 7 p.m. game and the boys hockey team will play MN River 7:30 p.m. at the Fairmont Arena. On Tuesday, Feb. 6, the boys basketball team will host Alden Conger at 7 p.m. in Trimont at 7 p.m.

Martin County West Schools will NOT have school on President’s Day, Feb. 19. The school is planning a special Hoops for Heart beginning 2 p.m. on Feb. 10 at the Trimont School. The Karson Kent Janssen Memorial Hoops for Heart is MCW and the Janssen Family’s way to fundraise for heart disease education, scholarships at the University of Minnesota and MCW students, raise funds for AED machines and CPR classes in the community, encourage living Karson’s motto “be nice, be neat, be humble” and encourage living positively grounded in faith. Fans are encouraged to wear royal blue. There will be doubleheader basketball games with girls playing at 5:45 p.m. and boys playing at 7 p.m. with B squads starting at 3 p.m. The younger students will play at halftime of the games. There is a plan to have a silent auction, bake sale, hoops donations, a photo booth, three point shot contest and a pass the bucket fundraiser during the games. Plan to attend.

The Friendship Club from St. John’s Lutheran Church will meet 11 a.m. on Feb. 12, at the Pizza Ranch in Fairmont. Area residents are welcome to join them.

Valentine’s Day is Feb. 14th and also the first day of the Lenten season, Ash Wednesday.
