Turkey bingo this Friday
SHERBURN– There will be a Crest Lunch-N-Learn 11 a.m., today, at the Senior Center in Sherburn near city hall. The speakers will be Cheri and Curtis Frank who will head up the new recovery resource in Sherburn called the Healing Hearts Housing. This will be a new ministry for women who are dealing with alcoholism and addiction. After the program there will be a brunch type light lunch. These Lunch-N-Learn programs are free to anyone in Martin County. A free will donation for the lunch is appreciated.

There is a Sherburn Legion’s Hamburger Night 5-8 p.m., tonight. A burger, salad and beans are offered for only $10. Celebrate fall or the month of November by taking your honey out.

Condolences to the Mansager, Spear, Winkleman and Meyer families who lost loved ones this month. They will be missed.

The Sherburn Theatre will feature the new movie “Killers of the Flower Moon” on the weekend of Nov. 3-5. The movie is about the Oklahoma Indians for whom some tried to take their oil rights. The movie is longer than usual. The starting time will be 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and there will be no intermission. The movie is over three hours, so if patrons would like to see the first half one night and the second half the next night or other showing, that can be arranged. The Sunday show time stays at 4 p.m. This movie will be shown next weekend as well, Nov. 10, 11 and 12.

The Sherburn Fire Department Relief Association will have a Turkey Bingo fundraiser beginning at 6:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 3 at the Fire Hall south of I 90. They have over 30 turkeys to win.

The Martin County West Schools will have an early dismissal on Nov. 3. The character trait the elementary students are concentrating on this month is Responsibility. The Nov. 7 election will have questions about the new school proposal. The election polling places are: The high school in Sherburn for the city of Sherburn, Jay, Elm Creek, Manyaska, Lake Fremont, Lake Belt Townships and the city of Dunnell. (also the Kimball township in Jackson County). The Trimont City Hall for the city of Trimont, Cedar, Galena and Waverly Townships. The Welcome City Hall for the city of Welcome, Fraser, Rolling Green, and Fox Lake Townships. The Martin County West Schools will have a Literacy Carnival on Nov. 9 at Trimont school from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. They will also have a Book Fair at Trimont School from Nov. 9-16.

Welcome St. Paul’s United Church of Christ will have their annual Turkey Dinner fundraiser 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., November 5.

There will be a special birthday celebration 1-4 p.m., Nov. 5 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church for Miss Murphy. Please wear green if you can. Miss Murphy is a former teacher (music) at the Martin County West School district and longtime resident of Sherburn.

The Friendship Club from St. John’s Lutheran Church will sponsor a Thanksgiving Potluck meal at Noon, November 6 at the church. The ham and beverage will be furnished, please bring a dish to pass. The community is invited to join any of the Friendship Club events.

Nov. 6 is also the date for the Red Cross Blood Drive at the Regional Worship Center in Sherburn, just south of I 90 from noon to 6 p.m. There is also a blood drive in Northrop that day from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Call the 800 number 800-733-2767 (800-red-cross) or go online at www.redcrossblood.org or text BLOODAPP to 90999 to make an appointment or get further information and to get a rapid pass to make registration time shorter.

The Mayo Mobile Clinic will be in Sherburn 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Nov. 6 and Nov. 8. The van is parked near city hall. Call the appointment number at (507) 238-8500 and mention Sherburn Clinic.

The Sherburn City Council will meet 5 p.m., Nov. 6 at city hall. There is always a public comment/question time at the beginning of each meeting. To be on the regular agenda please contact city hall prior to the meeting.

The Civic and Commerce Club will meet 6:30 p.m., Nov. 7 at the Senior Center near the city hall. Register your intent to decorate a Christmas tree for their Deck the halls Dec. 1 & 2 event by Nov. 29 at Bank Midwest or Sherburn Nursery. They will also have a vendor event that weekend.
