The Lewisville Legion Auxiliary will have a chicken supper from 5-6:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15. Adults are $12 and children, ages 1-9, are $8.
October has been designated as National Fire Prevention Month. This is when our local fire departments spread the word about fire safety. These men and woman are ready to answer our calls 24/7. You can help by making a family fire escape plan, placing smoke alarms on each floor of your home and testing your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors monthly. Truman Fire and Rescue department is combining their fire prevention open house and fall burger bash from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14. You can dine in or get your meal to go. Truman City Council will meet 5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, at the Truman Municipal Building. These meetings are open to the public.
Second Harvest Heartland, nutrition assistance program for seniors, will be held 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18 Come to Trinity Lutheran Church in Truman to pick up your box. Eligibility is based on age, 60 years and up, household size and income. Pre-register by calling 1-800-365-0270.

Middle and high school students from the First Congressional District (Rep. Brad Finstad) may participate in the Congressional App Challenge. The Congressional App Challenge is and annual competition that encourages students to create and exhibit their software application (also known as an "app") for web, PC, tablet, mobile or another platform of their choice. Students may compete as individuals or in teams of up to four, as long as two of the teammates attend schools within the First District. The deadline to submit an app is Nov. 1.
