Steak fry Saturday at Legion

SHERBURN -- There will be a virtual informational meeting from noon to 1 p.m. today, Oct. 11. This meeting is about the Nov. 7 bond referendum vote concerning the proposed MCW school facility proposed building project. You can call (507) 764-2330 for the link to log on. Additional informational meetings are scheduled 6-7 p.m. on Oct. 16, at Sherburn Elementary School; from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Oct. 24, at Welcome Legion Hall; and from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 30, at Dunnell Community Hall.

There will be an opportunity to get free coats and winter wear from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 14, in front of the Twelve Baskets store on Downtown Plaza in Fairmont. This is sponsored by the Area Disability Provider's Group and Twelve Baskets. If you have gently-used winter wear to donate, please contact Pat Kietzer at (507) 848-5017.

The Sherburn Legion will have their steak fry night from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at the legion building. For only $20 you can choose a rib eye steak, shrimp or smoked pork chop and match it with a salad bar, baked potato and garlic toast. Sounds good, especially when you do not have to cook it.

Martin County West athletes will have a cross country meet 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct.12, at Madelia. The football team will travel to Springfield for a 7 p.m. game and the volleyball team will play 7:15 p.m. at Blue Earth. On Monday, Oct. 16, the cross country team will go to Madelia at 4 p.m. and the volleyball team will play at Trimont School vs. Sleepy Eye at 7 p.m. On Tuesday, Oct 17, the volleyball team will travel to Cedar Mountain for a 7 p.m. game. The Sherburn Community Chest is relying on drop-in and mail-in donations until Oct. 31. Please drop off donations at Bank Midwest in Sherburn or mail in donations to Box 504, Sherburn, MN 56171 and label as Community Chest. Thank you for helping local organizatons.

There will be a Ruby's Pantry grocery distribution from 5:30-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, in the parking lot at the Regional Worship Center in Sherburn, just south of I-90. For only $25 you will get a trunk full of boxes with groceries.

The youth group from St. John's Lutheran Church is selling holiday greens from the Sherburn Nursery. The order needs to be in by Oct. 25 and delivery will be Nov. 20. See items and price list on the church website or in the church entry.

The Scouts are selling popcorn until Oct. 29. For more information, contact Chris Firchau. 1/3 of the proceeds stay in the local club.

Several Trunk and Treat events are scheduled for the safe Halloween fun for area children. The non-profit Ceylon Helping Hands will sponsor a Trunk and Treat from 2-5 p.m. on Oct. 28, at the Ceylon Park, and Welcome will have a Trunk and Treat event on Oct. 29 in the downtown area.

Cribbage tournaments in Welcome will begin Saturday, Oct. 14 and will be held the second and third Saturdays of the month at the Welcome Legion Hall. Registration starts at 1:15 p.m. and play begins at 1:30 p.m. The public is welcome to enjoy a fun afternoon of cribbage.

Sherburn Civic and Commerce Club is sponsoring a ‘Deck the Halls, Believe in the Magic of the Christmas Tree’ decorating event on Dec. 2-3, at the community building in Sherburn. They will also have a vendor show. Bring in a tree and decorate it from 5-8 p.m. on Dec. 1st with the theme you have chosen. Voting for the best tree will take place. From 1-7 p.m. on Dec. 2, the vendor show and tree voting will happen. There will also be a free movie for the children and Santa will visit after the movie. Sherburn Drama Club will serve a supper meal from 5-7 p.m. On Dec. 3 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. tree voting and vendor show continues and the Sherburn Lions will serve breakfast. Other upcoming events include a turkey bingo fundraiser for the Sherburn Fire Department on Nov. 3 at the fire hall. Also, St. John's Lutheran Church will have their harvest dinner on Nov. 12. Mark your calendars and plan to attend all the upcoming events.
