Registration for school year underway
SHERBURN — Registration for the 2023-2024 school year is underway online only. Check out the August newsletter or the school district site at www.martin.k12.mn.us. The school offices are now open also, usually until 4 p.m. MCW fall sports practices will begin Aug. 14 and games and meets are scheduled for the last part of August.
Tuesday coffee hours in August continue from 8:30-10 a.m. on Aug. 15, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn. Join neighbors and friends for good coffee and fellowship.
St. John’s youth group is selling sweet corn as a fundraiser. They are usually at the Sherburn Nursery from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Watch for signs in case they sell out some days.
St. John’s LWML ladies group is gathering things for the Options Pregnancy Center during the month of August. Check the church’s Facebook post for ideas.
Congratulations to Kenneth Morris who turned 80-years-old on Aug. 8. Cards and birthday wishes may be sent to him at 8 North Shore Drive N., Sherburn, MN 56171. Our wish is for many more years to you.
Congratulations also to the Peters Family from Sherburn who were chosen as Martin County Farm Family for 2023. Farm families are chosen by the University of MN Extension Committee. The family was officially recognized at FarmFest. The family has farmed that land since 1886 and was named a Century Farm in 1986. Tony and Danielle Peters and their four children and Tony’s parents, Doug and Donna, run the farm.
Condolences to the families of Mae Jones, Karen Eutath and Mary Rich, who passed away recently. They will be missed.
Park Play ends this week and Friday is the last Park Play date for children in Sherburn.
The Sherburn Legion will have their steak fry night from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, with a menu including choice of ribeye, shrimp or smoked pork chop, salad bar, potato and garlic toast for only $20.
Sherburn Theatre will feature the movie ‘Barbie’ this weekend, Aug. 11-13. Show times are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

* A Lunch and Learn program beginning 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, at the First Lutheran Church in Trimont.
* American Red Cross blood drives will be held Aug. 25, in Fairmont at two locations, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 300 Downtown Plaza, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Crossfit gym.
There will also be a blood drive in September at Best Western in
