FAIRMONT-- The Red Rock Center for the Arts in Fairmont is holding a member appreciation and community open house from 2 to 4 p.m. on Aug. 12. Director Sonja Fortune said it provides an opportunity for members of the public to come in and see what the Red Rock has to offer, including a look at its upcoming concert series.
"We'll serve hor'dourves, refreshments, wine and beer, all complimentary," Fortune said.
There will be a live music performance at 3 p.m. by Fiona Green and her brother, Liam Edberg, who will play a violin duet. The event will also include make and take art projects.
"People can learn about some volunteer opportunities that we have available," Fortune said.
She added that they're in dire need of people to get involved and help grow the local arts.
"We're looking for a couple new board members who are looking to get involved. Board members are an integral part of what we do. They help come up with new ideas to keep us strong and healthy," Fortune said.
As a non-profit, the Red Rock Center for the Arts relies on volunteers. While they don't need a large number of volunteers, Fortune said they are in need of people to help with a variety of tasks, like serving refreshments, a handyman to do minor repairs, people to iron linens and do light cleaning.
"A lot of our volunteers are getting older. We're looking for others to come on board," Fortune said.
In addition to learning about the Red Rock's art classes and volunteer opportunities, the open house will serve as a time to learn about the center's upcoming concert series, which kicks off in September.
"We try to do a different genre with each performance to attract people of all ages and interests," Fortune said.
She added that the venue's small, intimate setting also allows people to get to know the performer and their story, which makes for an inviting experience.
At 7 p.m. on Sept. 23, there will be a country/pop/folk performance by Dan Rodriguez.
"For this with partnering with Fairmont Brewing Company, which will be serving some local brew during the concert," Fortune said.
Ben Ransom, an improv nylon-strong, finger-style guitarist and singer-songwriter will perform at 7 p.m. on Nov. 4. Glenn Henricksen, a popular and returning performer to the Red Rock will perform at 7 p.m. on Dec. 8. Henricksen is a piano extraordinaire and entertainer.

"It will be an evening of love and laughter right around Valentine's Day," Fortune said.
She said for this performance they're thinking about adding a dinner option, which will be announced a month or so before the event.
A local duo from Blue Earth, Paul and Kristin Johnson, will be performing broadway to opera at 7 p.m. on March 23, 2024.
