Council hears EAB information

SHERBURN — The Sherburn City Council met on Monday evening. The emerald ash borer (EAB) questions the council had at previous meetings was discussed and the administrator discussed some answers she had been given by the state extension agro-forestry educator and state plant protection office. The trees maybe burned at the city burn site. No ash trees, mulch or firewood are allowed to leave the EAB quarantine without compliance from the MDA. The boulevard trees are the homeowners responsibility. There are several trees in the city-owned parks that have to be taken down.

The deputy clerk will try to provide information via the water bill or a mass mailing to residents about the rules and sources from which residents may gather information. Emerald ash borer info for homeowners is: https://www.mda.state.mn.us/eab-info-homeowners. The emerald ash borer quarantine law is at: https://www.mda.state.mn.us/plants-insects/emerald-ash-borer-quarantinefrom Danielle DeVito.

The furnace and air conditioning repairs/replacement bids were discussed. The need for work was discussed as the fan is old and not at all efficient and the council wanted to be proactive before the system failed and would need immediate attention. There was a question about some of the parts and the plan to do or not do the heating pump and the refund available from REA, so the matter was tabled until the next meeting.

The council approved the update to the personnel handbook. Auditor suggestions to close EDA checking and the revolving loan fund savings and make them a part of the general fund was discussed and then approved. The deputy clerk suggested making the code numbers explanation part of the report given the council members and they agreed that would be a helpful reminder.

The auditor, Burkhardt and Burkhardt, suggested the council arrange for mid-year mini audit reports to check on how things were working that were changed. The administrator will check with the auditor about the end of the year audit charge and how this would

affect that audit. The council approved having a mini audit soon.

In the news:

— The progress of several properties to be demolished were discussed and owners of sold properties were cooperating and requests for help with demolition expenses have been made. This will be kept under observation and attention.

— There was a second reading of the animal ordinance and then it was tabled for the next meeting to be voted on as a resolution. The City Attorney and law enforcement approved the ordinance.

The next meeting of the Sherburn City Council is scheduled at 5 p.m. on July 17 at Sherburn City Hall.
