Sherburn council approves permit

SHERBURN — The Sherburn City Council met Monday evening and had a second reading of the amendment to Ordinance 6-1, subsection 3. The council approved the amendment suggested by the insurance company to raise the minimal liability limit to $1 million.

A conditional use permit was applied for by Healing Hearts Housing, LLC, a women’s sober living home and peer support services for a home at 108 S. Manyaska St. in Sherburn. This will be annually renewed and reviewed if any concerns are brought to the City or Police.

Conditions include off street parking, no more than five police calls per year and a 10 p.m. curfew unless attending out of town meetings and trainings. The Police Chief had no concerns. The council approved the conditional use permit.

The council reviewed a bid from Day Plumbing and Heating for the furnace and air conditioning replacement in the city hall building. The council asked for two more bids and asked that those bids also include the items on the bid received, namely furnace and a possible heat pump installation. The council asked the administrator to provide the comparison of actual and planned expenses so far this year.

Chief of Police, Trevor Yochim, reported that the old squad car was sold for $8,000+. He also reported on the ordinance violations underway. Some have had progress, some need more time and some need more done, but it is getting better.

The time for public comments/questions included a question about why South Main Street was scheduled to be milled and re-blacktopped and then sealcoated. The council explained the delamination and drying out of the street due to the original final coat not packed properly and age of the street. They explained that the maintenance of the street was the reason so it will last longer.
