Mayo Mobile Clinic in Sherburn Monday

SHERBURN — There will be a CREST-sponsored Lunch and Learn program 11 a.m. today, May 3, at the senior center near the city hall building in Sherburn. A professional gardener will offer suggestions and answer questions, followed by a salad luncheon. The program is free to anyone in Martin County. A donation for the luncheon is appreciated.

Tonight, May 3, is ‘Hamburger Night’ from 5-8 p.m. at the Sherburn Legion. You can get a burger, beans and salad for only $10. Sounds yummy.

This is Teacher Appreciation Week. Take the time to thank a teacher. This Friday, May 5, there is a teacher’s workshop scheduled so there will be no school that day for MCW schools.

The Sherburn Legion will be hopping this weekend. On Friday, May 5,there will be a special fundraiser for after-prom activities and a special comedian, Tom Brody, will present a show at 8:30 p.m. for those 21 and older. A ticket is $20 and can be bought at the door

or from any after-prom committee member.

The Sherburn Legion will also have a special karaoke event featuring Bridget and Cara from 8:30 p.m. Saturday, May 6, to midnight on May 7. Plan to attend.

The Sherburn Theatre will again feature the movie ‘Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret’ this weekend, May 5-7. Show times are 7 p.mFriday and Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday.

St. John’s Lutheran Church will celebrate confirmation with 14 youth at the 10:30 a.m. service Sunday, May 7. Congratulations to the confirmands.

The Mayo Mobile Clinic will be in Sherburn from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, May 8, and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, near to city hall building. Call the appointment at (507) 238-8500 and mention the Sherburn Clinic.

Sherburn Civic and Commerce Club is getting ready to plant the large planters on Main Street. Financial support is appreciated to help keep the city beautiful. Send donations to Sherburn Civic and Commerce, Box 108, Sherburn, MN 56171. Your name will be on a

small sign in a flower pot. Thank you for supporting this local project.

There will be an all-you-can-eat Kiwanis pancake supper fundraiser from 4:30-7 p.m. Monday, May 8, at the Five Lakes Centre in Fairmont. The menu will consist of pancakes, sausage, milk and coffee The cost is $8 or $7 (pre sale) for adults and $4.50 ($4 pre sale) for children, 12 and under. Proceeds will go towards purchasing uniforms and other needs for the Fairmont/Martin County West Red Bulls Wrestling club. Tickets can be purchased at the Sherburn Nursery or Ron Arens CPA in Fairmont.

Upcoming events include the Sherburn Clean Up Day for Sherburn residents only from 8-11 a.m. on May 13. Bring items behind the city hall by the water tower free or purchase a flag from city hall curbside pick up for $25 for a pile no larger than a pickup box

approximately 4 x 8 feet and 4 feet high. The flags must be purchased before 4 p.m. on May 11. For questions call Sherburn City Hall at (507) 764-4491. This will be a good opportunity to get rid of items that may be an ordinance violation before a citation is

issued.

The Sherburn Festival will be held June 15-17 and the Sherburn Civic and Commerce Club is organizing a city-wide garage sale during festival weekend. Contact Sheila at the Martin County Star newspaper to be listed for a $10 fee by June 13. The lists will be available at Casey’s, Kum n Go and Bank Midwest during that weekend.

Martin County West athletes are busy this week. Tonight, May 3, the softball team will play a double header beginning 4 p.m. at the Welcome field. On Thursday, May 4, the softball team will play a game vs. Madelia at 4:30 p.m. at the Welcome field and the baseballteam will travel to Mankato to play against Loyola at 5 p.m. and an elementary choral concert at 6 p.m. at the Trimont School. On Friday, May 5, there will be an invitational track meet beginning 4 p.m. at Fairmont, the baseball team will travel to Mountain Lake at 4:30 p.m., and the boys and girls golf teams will compete 4:30 p.m. at Fox Lake Golf Club, rural Sherburn. MCW Prom is scheduled Saturday, May 6, at MCW High School in Sherburn. On Monday, May 8, there will be a band concert at 7 p.m. On Tuesday, May 9, the boys and girls golf teams will compete at North Links Golf Course in North Mankato, the track and field teams will go to Wells and the baseball and softball teams will compete against Sleepy Eye 5 p.m. at the Welcome Field.
