Sunday pancake feed planned

SHERBURN -- Today, April 12, St. Luke's Catholic Church has a weekday Mass at 8:30 a.m. The third week Mass will always be held 10 a.m. at Temperance Lake Ridge in Sherburn. St. Luke's members are reminded that they are now on the summer schedule so the services are at 10:30 a.m. on Sundays until July, and they hold weekday morning Mass on Wednesdays.

This weekend is going to be busy. The Ceylon Community Day auction is on Saturday and city-wide garage sales this weekend.

Sherburn Lions Club prime rib supper will be held 5-7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 15, at the Sherburn Legion Hall.

Sherburn Fire Department Relief Association is holding a pancake feed from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday, April 16, at the Sherburn Fire Hall, across from Dollar General on Temperance Lake Road. They will serve pancakes, eggs, juice, and coffee for a free will donation. Proceeds will help them purchase needed equipment. A good way to thank the firefighters for their service and to have a good meal.

Sherburn Theatre will again feature the movie 'The Mario Bros Movie' this weekend, April 14-16. Show times are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday.

An American Red Cross blood drive will be held April 14, at the American Legion, 300 Downtown Plaza in Fairmont, and on April 24, at Martin Luther High School in Northrop. To find a drive in the area,call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or go online at

Sherburn Legion will have their 'Hamburger Night' from 5-8 p.m. on April 19 at the legion club.

Ruby's Pantry grocery distribution will be held 5:30-7 p.m. Monday, April 17, at the Regional Worship Center in Sherburn (just south of I-90). Get a variety of grocery items for $25. Make sure your trunk is empty. For further information, call (507) 764-7491 and see the items list on Facebook.

St. John's Lutheran Church Friendship Club will not meet in April. Watch for further information about the May meeting.

There is a Spring Rally for the Blue Earth Zone of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML) scheduled 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 110 E. 4th St. in Truman. The speaker is a former Muslim converted to Christianity, Rev. Craig McCourt, speaking about the book of Ephesians. The LWML invites area men and women to hear this interesting speaker. You need not be an LWML member to attend.

During the month of April, Martin County West elementary students will participate in a Heart Health Challenge to raise funds for the American Heart Association. The community has been generous in their support for this organization in the past and the donations are greatly appreciated.

The April theme for the Character Education Program in Martin County elementary schools is courage, sometimes defined as "choosing what is helpful, right, and kind, even when it is hard or scary." April 15 is Military Kids Day so the MCW staff and students will wear the color purple on April 14 to show support for military families. FFA students from MCW will participate in the Minnesota State FFA Convention from April 23-25.

Sports scheduled will be golf at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 13, in Madelia. On Friday, April 14, the baseball team will play Sleepy Eye at 4:30 p.m. at the Welcome Ball Field, and the softball team will play 4:30 p.m. at Madelia. On Monday, April 17, the baseball team will play Fairmont at 4:30 p.m. at the ball field in Welcome, and the softball team will play 4:30 p.m. in Jackson. On Tuesday, April 18, the boys and girls track and field teams will travel to Maple River for a 4:30 p.m. meet. Good luck, Mavericks.
