Sherburn OKs contract with city attorney
SHERBURN — Sherburn City Council held its most recent meeting on Monday evening and
approved signing a contract with Birkholtz Law for a city attorney at $7,000 a year.
During the administrator’s report an engineer from Bolton and Menk, Kelly Jahnke, asked that there be an extension for the wastewater treatment plant since there has been a delay in receiving the needed equipment for motor control centers to the contractors although they were ordered a year ago. They are now hoping for a completion of that part in September or October. Meanwhile, the contractor will do preparation work. Jahnke reported project parts that have been completed or will be completed by May. There has been a loan approved from the beginning that should cover the extra expense. The council approved the extension.
The city works employee reported that the DNR had reported the licensed limit of water usage was over the top and the City applied for an increase. There is plenty of water available. He also reported that the RO system will be changed out soon with improved membranes at a lower cost than budgeted at $34,000.
The Police Chief reported that John Auringer, the Chief in Trimont, has begun his work there. They have some part-time applications but no full-time applications for the Welcome/Sherburn Police Department as of now.
There have been red tags and pictures of ordinance violations presented and citations will follow if they are not cleaned up. They are coordinating with Clean-Up Days in each community.
Derek Behrens from Bolton and Menk discussed the Osborne Street project spring/summer plans for work on that project. He also discussed the Highway 4 project and the plans for replacing of some lighting.
In council reports, a report of backups in a residence was discussed and pressure treatments were done but backup returns so the council approved putting a camera down to find out what is causing the problem. There are plans for a camera to do other projects and the residence will be photographed at the time those other projects are done this summer.
In other business, the road to the substation near Temperance Lake Road will be rebuilt and Federated Rural Electric Association will help rebuild it since their large trucks to the substation construction was part of the problem.
In other news:
