WELCOME -- There will be a fish fry from 5:30-7:30 p.m. tonight, March 31, at Welcome Legion Hall. This is a fundraiser for the Welcome Summer Festival committee and proceeds will help them organize a fun weekend on July 14-16 this year. The menu includes two choices, all-you-can-eat for a suggested donation of $20 or a lite bite meal of one fish and three shrimp for $15. The meals include a baked potato, coleslaw and a dinner roll as well. Sounds yummy.
No fooling, it's almost April. This Saturday is April 1st and the Welcome Historical Society Museum will be open from 2-4 p.m. They schedule the first Saturday of the month from April to September for open hours. They have also scheduled an annual meeting for 5 p.m. on April 18 at the Welcome Legion Hall. Plan now to attend. Membership dues of $10 can be paid that night or mailed to Welcome Historical Society, Box 123, Welcome, MN 56181.
Senior citizens will meet for a noon potluck meal on Monday, April 3, at the Welcome Legion Hall. Bring a dish to pass and your own utensils. There will be time for fellowship following the meal. All senior citizens in the area are welcome.
Welcome City Council will meet 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, at Welcome City Hall. All members are urged to attend. There is always a time for public comments and questions at the beginning of each meeting. To be on the regular agenda, please contact the city hall prior to the meeting by calling (507) 728-8740.
Next week is Holy Week, the week before Easter, and area churches are having special services. Circle of Faith parishes will have 6:30 p.m. Maundy Thursday services on April 6, at Waverly Lutheran Church, north of Welcome, and 6:30 p.m. Good Friday services on April 7, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon. Easter services on April 9, will be at each of the parishes as follows: 7 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran in Welcome, at 8:30 a.m. at First Lutheran in Trimont, at 9 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran in Ceylon, and 10:30 a.m. at Waverly Lutheran, north of Welcome. Area residents are always welcome at these services.
The Old 16 Bar and Grill will have an annual Scotch Doubles pool tournament starting 9 a.m. Saturday, April 1. Registration begins at 8 a.m. For further information, call Tony at (507) 236-6038.
There will be an American Red Cross blood drive from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 3, in the back room at Lake Belt Bar and Grill in Ceylon. The last cribbage tournament will be held April 8 at the Welcome Legion Hall. Registration starts at 1:15 p.m. and play will get underway at 1:30 p.m. All cribbage players are welcome.
Welcome Fire Department has scheduled some free fun events for children. There will be a Easter Egg coloring event beginning 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5, at the Welcome Legion Hall. The eggs and supplies will be provided. Also, there will be an Easter Egg Hunt at 10 a.m. on April 8, at Hansen Keck Park in Welcome.
