MCW facilities meeting on March 28

WELCOME — There will be an American Red Cross blood drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, March 24, at the Cross Fit gym in Fairmont. There will also be a blood drive from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on April 3, in the banquet room at the Lake Belt Bar and Grill in Ceylon, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 5, at Truman High School. There is an urgent need for blood now so give if you are able.

Condolences to the family of Larry Currier who passed away recently. He will be missed.

Midweek Lenten services continue in area churches and all area residents are welcome to join any of these churches for services. St. Paul’s United Church of Christ holds Lenten Bible Study at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays after a meal at 5:30 p.m. Circle of Faith parishes gather at 6:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome. St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn has Tuesday evening Lenten services at 5:30 p.m. followed by a lunch. St. John’s Lutheran in Sherburn has 6 p.m. services followed by a meal.

There will be a fish fry fundraiser on March 31, at the Welcome Legion Hall. This event is planned to raise funds for the Welcome Summer Festival committee. They will serve from 5:30-7:30 p.m. (or until fish is gone). The menu includes fish and shrimp, baked potato, coleslaw and a dinner roll. The price is $20 for all-you-can-eat or $15 for a lite meal of one fish and three shrimp. If anyone cannot attend the fundraiser but would like to donate a check it can be mailed to Box 402, Welcome, MN 56181. The committee would like to thank all those who participate and those who donate. The summer festival is scheduled for July 14-16. Plan now to attend.

Congratulations to Welcome resident, Emily Stauter, who received one of the two Federated Rural Electric scholarships for $1,000 to help with her college expenses at Bethel University. She is the daughter of Robert and Lynda Stauter.

Knights of Columbus silent and live auction will begin 6 p.m. Saturday, April 1, in the gym at St. John Vianney School in Fairmont. CREST and Arc Minnesota Southwest have been designated to receive the proceeds from the auctions. Plan to attend this fun event that supports these two great organizations.

If anyone wasn’t able to attend the community meeting concerning MCW facilities that were held in Welcome and Sherburn this week, there is one more meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28, at Triumph Hall in Trimont.
