Pair accused of stealing from employer

FAIRMONT– A Fairmont mother and son have been accused of swindling more than half a million dollars from Commodity Services Inc., the truck brokerage where they were both employed.

Vickie Greiner has been charged with one count of felony theft by swindle and one count of felony theft. Brandon Lee Greiner has been charged with one count of felony aiding and abetting theft by swindle and one count of felony theft.

A criminal complaint filed by Fairmont Police alleges police were informed by the owner of Commodity Services that Vickie Greiner had admitted to stealing money after being confronted about suspicious electronic transfers in December. According to the complaint Vickie had been a salaried employee responsible for processing all bills and payments for Commodity Services who was paid entirely via paper check but transferred nearly $350,000 to her personal account between May of 2019 and December of 2022 as well as approximately $268,000 to her son’s account between August of 2021 and October of 2022.

Following a demand from Commodity Service’s attorney, Vickie returned $244,000 in 2022.

Brandon was employed at Commodity Services as a salesperson and told police he received a 40 percent commission on sales from Commodity Services which was paid via electronic transfers. Police reported they had received a complete copy of all checks issued to Brandon and said they had no indication that any of his compensation was received through the electronic transfer method in question. Police also noted Brandon had transferred approximately $182,000 to Vickie in 2022.

Both Vickie and Brandon have received a court summons and have yet to give depositions. On Thursday Vickie’s legal representative filed a motion requesting the state dismiss the case presented against her and the state be stopped from introducing evidence claiming a lack of probable cause and improper methods of obtaining evidence.
