Lions to host New Year’s Eve dinner

SHERBURN — I hope you and yours had a Merry Christmas and did not get blown away in the ferocious wind and snow. Please have a Happy New Year and a safe 2023.

St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn will change to their January service times to 5 p.m. on Saturdays beginning New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31.

Sherburn Lions will have a New Years Eve dinner from 5-7:30 p.m. Dec. 31, at the Sherburn Legion Hall, with Tom and Jerrys and snacks at 4 p.m. The meal will be a prime rib dinner. Everyone is welcome.

The next ‘Hamburger Night’ will be held on Jan. 4, at the Sherburn Legion, so mark your calendar and plan to attend.

There will be an American Red Cross blood drive from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30, in the back room at the Lake Belt Bar and Grill in Ceylon. To make an appointment, call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or go online at www.redcrossblood.org.

Condolences to the family of Darlene Schuler, former Sherburn resident, who passed away. She will be missed.

This weekend, the Sherburn Theatre will again feature the movie ‘Puss in Boots 2’ on Dec. 30-31. Show times will be 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday. They will be closed New Year’s Day, Sunday, Jan. 1.

Martin County West Schools will resume classes on Tuesday, Jan. 3, but some MCW athletes are scheduled for games this week. Today, Dec. 28, the boys basketball will be at Russell-Tyler-Ruthton and the boys hockey team play 4:30 p.m. at Red Wing and also on Thursday. School resumes next Tuesday, Jan. 3, and the gymnastics team are scheduled to meet Jackson at 6 p.m. Boys basketball is set to play 7 p.m. in Fairmont, while boys and girls hockey will travel to Luverne at 7 p.m. that day.
