Council hears park concerns

WELCOME — Welcome City Council met on Tuesday evening and heard a complaint about the lack of snow removal from the street in front of the Gary and Sheryl Scheff home. Later in the meeting the city employee promised to rectify the situation. The council reviewed the snow removal policy and did not add anything but did make the remark that enforcement of ordinances needs to be strengthened.

The council discussed the EDA property and the need for a road east of the new storage facility and utilities to the other property. There is a possibility of using the capital improvement funds or EDA revolving loan funds. The EDA will meet soon. The council asked

that more information and plans for use of the property be studied by the council before they stipulate help which may be expensive.

The Park Board reported some concerns about Keck Park and the shelter house. They were told that the zipline parts were now available and that should be finished. The basketball court is done and one more is planned in the spring. Contractors need to be contacted for shelter house remodeling such as boarding up windows, new doors, plating in front of the fireplace, adding motion lights to be flush with the soffit to deter vandalism, and replacing picnic tables. The Park Board suggested replacing a few tables every year. The council approved ordering six tables for inside the shelter house for approximately $8,000. The Park Board will look for bids on some of the other concerns and bring them back to the council. The playground equipment at the ball park is falling apart even after it was repaired once. The obscene graffiti on the park equipment needs to be removed. Later in the meeting, the city employee discussed several products that could be used to remove the graffiti and the council asked that he do that removal..

In other news:

— Fire chief, Jay Mulso, explained his budget and discussed concerns about fixing the drain system and flooring in the truck hall, and new radios. He reported that the old rescue truck was sold.

– The city employee reported that the stop sign that was run over had been fixed and he would get bids to trim the new trees (2 years old) to give them a better form as they grow.

The next Welcome City Council meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Dec. 20, at Welcome City Hall.
