Christmas social on Thursday

CEYLON — Congratulations to Elaine Krueger who had her 90th birthday on Dec. 1st. Cards will reach her at 850 Goldfinch St., Apt. 309, Fairmont, MN 56031. Our wish is for many more birthdays.

Condolences to the family of Roland Wagner who passed away. He has ties to Ceylon and started the Channel Inn Restaurant in Fairmont.

On Sunday, Dec. 4, Pastor Reimers family will have a Christmas open house from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert, for members of St. Paul’s and Our Saviors churches and Reimer’s friends in the area.

The ladies group, WELCA, from St. Peter Lutheran Church will get together for their Christmas meeting at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 7, at Jeannine Rasmussen’s apartment building in Estherville, Iowa. All members are urged to attend.

The Coffee Lovers group will meet 8:30-10 a.m. Thursday morning in the back room at Lake Belt Bar and Grill. They meet every Thursday. All area men and women are welcome.

The LWML ladies group at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert will have their Christmas social and salad luncheon at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 8. They will have a craft and bake sale table with proceeds to help expenses of their monthly mission projects. Area

ladies are welcome.

The location of the cribbage tournament will be at the Welcome Legion Hall on Saturday, Dec. 10, and Saturday, Dec. 17. Registration will begin at 1:15 p.m. with play getting underway around 1:30 p.m. The registration is $11 but all money is given back as prizes. Any cribbage lover is welcome to join them on the second and third Saturdays from November to March.

The non-profit group, Helping Hands of Ceylon, will have a free Community Christmas event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 18, in the back room at Lake Belt Bar and Grill in Ceylon. Soup, sandwiches, and Christmas goodies will be available and Santa will pose with the children for pictures. Donations to help defray expenses is much appreciated. There is a jar at the bar or contact any of the board members, Barb Kronback, Chris Griffin, Angie Connell, Judith Perkins, or Shelly Reisdorfer. The bar also has a box for donations of new or gently-used mittens, boots, coats, scarfs, hats, etc. These will be distributed to families in need.

With Christmas now getting closer, there is also a reminder that the City of Ceylon will sponsor a Christmas lighting contest of homes in town. The prizes of $75 for first place, $50 for second, and $25 for third, will be issued as a credit on the utility bill of the house owner. Thank you to all homes that decorate for Christmas and brighten our holiday.
