Pork chop fundraiser tonight

WELCOME – There will be a pork chop supper fundraiser, sponsored by the Summer Festival Committee, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. tonight, Dec. 2, at the Welcome Legion Hall. The menu includes smoked pork chop, baked potato, vegetable, and dinner roll.

Circle of Faith parishes are reminded that they are on the December service schedule which will be 9 a.m. Sunday at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon and a 10:30 a.m. Sunday service at Waverly Lutheran Church north of Welcome. First Lutheran Church in Trimont will have an Advent carol sing beginning 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, for all Circle of Faith parishes along with coffee and cider and any Christmas goodies the participants would like to share.

Welcome senior citizens will meet for their noon potluck meal on Monday, Dec. 5, at the Welcome Legion Hall with fellowship to follow. All senior citizens are welcome especially if their town does not have a senior citizens group.

Condolences to the family of Dale Keck who passed away. He will be remembered as a teacher, coach and principal in the Gibbon School District. He will be missed.

There will be a special school board and public meeting beginning 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, in the cafeteria at Sherburn High School, to hear the report from the ISG Company which has been analyzing the buildings and demographic trends of the communities with

architects and engineers for the school district. There will be opportunities to submit questions on the reports and information about future meetings to discuss options about addressing the information learned from their study. Written reports and a recording of the meeting will be on the school district’s website after the meeting so everyone can review the information. Plan to attend.

The Welcome Bank and Borchardt Insurance Agency will have their holiday open house from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 8. They ask that items for the food shelf be brought. Sandwiches and goodies will be served and door prizes will be given out.

There will be a Santa Day for area children from 1-3 p.m. Dec. 10, at the Welcome Legion. They will have an opportunity to take a fire truck ride and other activities like decorating a cookie, coloring and viewing a police car.

Upcoming events include:

• Cribbage tournament begins 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 10 and Dec. 17 at

the Welcome Legion Hall.

• Children’s program for First Lutheran and Waverly combined at the regular 10:30 a.m. service on Dec. 11, at Waverly Lutheran Church, north of Welcome, with a potluck meal to follow.
