Senior citizens plan Monday potluck/fellowship

WELCOME – Saturday will already begin the month of October. The older you get the faster time flies. Please remember to be careful during this harvest season, on the road and in the field, equipment and bins. Have a safe harvest everyone.

Since it’s October this weekend, Circle of Faith parishes will be changing service times due to only having one pastor. Waverly Lutheran and First Lutheran in Trimont will be sharing 10:30 a.m. Sunday services, with Waverly doing the 10:30 a.m. service in

October and First Lutheran doing the service in November. St. Peter Lutheran in Ceylon and Trinity Lutheran in Welcome will be sharing the 9 a.m. service time with St. Peter doing the Sunday services at 9 a.m. in October and Trinity doing the service in November. Also in Welcome, St. Paul’s United Church of Christ has 9:30 a.m. services during the fall and winter. Area residents are welcome to join any of these congregations for worship.

There will be a craft and vendor show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Regional Worship Center just south of I-90 in Sherburn.

On Monday, Oct. 3, the Welcome Legion will be the place for area senior citizens to gather for their noon potluck meal, with fellowship to follow. Please bring a dish to pass and your eating utensils. All area senior citizens are welcome especially if your town doesn’t have a senior citizens group.

Tuesday coffee hours in October will be 8:30-10 a.m. beginning Oct. 4, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn. Join friends and neighbors for coffee, goodies and great fellowship.

Welcome City Council will meet 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, at Welcome City Hall. All members are urged to attend. There is always a time for public comments and questions at the beginning of each meeting without reservations. To be on the regular agenda, contact the city clerk prior to the meeting by calling (507) 728-8740.

Larry Puhrman would like to announce that there will be cribbage tournaments at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 8 and Oct. 15. Registration will begin at 1:15 p.m. Both dates will be at the Welcome Legion Hall due to road construction in Ceylon. Anyone interested in playing

cribbage is welcome. The registration is $11 and there is 100 percent payback for prizes. For further information, contact Larry at (507) 236-7301. Sounds like a fun afternoon.

Welcome Fire Department is taking applications for firefighters through Oct. 14. Applications are available at Welcome City Hall. Think about training and serving your community in this way.

Welcome’s Clean Up Day will be from 8-10 a.m. (or whenever the truck is full) on Oct. 15. Pick up is on Campbell Street near the fire hall. This is free for Welcome residents only.

There will be an American Red Cross blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. on Oct. 17, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Welcome. For more information or to make an appointment, call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767), go online at www.redcrossblood.org or text

BLOODAPP to 90999. Blood is needed and the only way it is received is for a donor to give blood. Every donation may save up to three lives. Thank you for giving blood. Other donation sites are on Oct. 28 at Cross Fit in Fairmont, and Nov. 7, in both Northrop and Sherburn in the afternoon. Check out locations near you and times and dates you can give.
