Students return to school next week

WELCOME – This weekend begins the fall season and the month of September. Monday is Labor Day so that means schools will be starting. Please watch for children especially by buses. Labor Day also means some businesses are closed that day. Have a safe

holiday.

Tuesday coffee hours for September will be held 8:30-10 a.m. each Tuesday at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Welcome. Join friends and neighbors for coffee, goodies, and fellowship.

Since Monday is Labor Day, the senior citizens group in Welcome will meet for a noon potluck meal on Sept. 12, at the Welcome Legion Hall, with fellowship and fun to follow. Please bring a dish to pass and eating utensils. All area senior citizens are welcome especially if your town does not have a senior citizens group.

Welcome City Council will meet 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Welcome City Hall. All members are urged to attend. There is always a time for public comments and questions at the beginning of each meeting. To be on the regular agenda, please call the city clerk at (507) 728-8740 prior to the meeting.

Welcome Historical Society Museum will be open 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3. This is the last Saturday they will be open this season until next April. Appointments to see the museum can be made by calling (507) 236-2034.

Circle of Faith parishes have changed schedules in September due to the resignation of Pastor Kay. She will be moving to a parish in Auburn, Minn. First Lutheran Church in Trimont will have services at 9 a.m. for two Sundays and 10:30 a.m. services for two Sundays. Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome will have services at 10:30 a.m. for two Sundays, then 9 a.m. services for two Sundays. Waverly Lutheran Church, north of Welcome, will have 10:30 a.m. services the first two Sundays in September and then will join other parishes for services the last two Sundays. St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon will have Wednesday evening services at 6:30 p.m. during September.

There will be American Red Cross blood drives in Fairmont from Sept. 6-8 at the Best Western Motel, and on Sept. 26 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. To make an appointment, call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767), go online at
