MCW transition meeting tonight

SHERBURN — There is a transition evening for incoming 7th graders and new students to the school district and their parents from 3:30-7:30 p.m. tonight at the high school in Sherburn. Busing will be available from Ceylon and Welcome. The student council, National

Honor Society members and and school staff will provide orientation sessions. The first day of school for MCW students in grades 7-12 will be Sept. 6, while students in kindergarten through 6th grade will start on Sept. 8.

The Friendship Club at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn usually has a meeting on the first Monday of the month but in September that will be Labor Day so they are rescheduling their meeting for 2 p.m. on Sept. 12. Coffee and goodies will be served. All area residents are invited, please bring some goodies if you are able.

Thursday will already begin the month of September. Tuesday coffee hours in September will be held 8:30-10 a.m. at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Welcome. Join friends and neighbors for good coffee and fellowship.

Sherburn Theatre will feature the movie ”Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris” this weekend. Showtimes are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Condolences to the family of Dianne Ebeling who passed away last week. She might be remembered as a former home economics teacher in Sherburn. She was currently a resident of Trimont.

There will be parent-teacher conferences for elementary students this week and the first day of school for them is Sept. 8. Check out the September school district newsletter for lots of information about school and Commmunity Education and Recreation events.

The varsity volleyball team will have a game against Fairmont beginning 7 p.m. Thursday in Trimont. On Friday, the boys and girls cross-country teams will travel to South Dakota for an Augustana Invitational at Yankton Trails. The football team will have a home game versus St. James at 7 p.m. Friday in Sherburn. Good luck to all Maverick athletes.
