Awards programs next week

TRUMAN — A Moments Hospice presentation by Michelle Loosbrock, a consultant for a new company in the area, will begin 2 p.m. today, May 19, in the back room at the Turman Public Library. You can hear about hospice and its circle of care.

Truman Lions Club burger bash will be held 5-7 p.m. Saturday at the Truman Community Building with all proceeds going to the Truman Days Parade. Come enjoy a delicious hamburger, beans, chips, beverage, buy your raffle ticket, order a Truman Days t-shirt and nominate person/family or organization for grand marshal of the parade.

City of Truman ordinance requires mowing grass and weeds before they reach a height of 6 inches. Failure to comply will result in the City mowing and assessing the property owner for the cost. Also, discharging mowed grass in the gutter or street is prohibited.

Fairmont Chamber of Commerce is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a Martin County student in a business-related field entering their junior or senior post secondary year in a four-year college or their final year in a technical college. The scholarship is awarded after review of grades to confirm achievement of a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Scholarship applications may be picked up at the Fairmont Area Chamber of Commerce office located at 323 E. Blue Earth Ave. or filled out online on the Chamber website, www.fairmontchamber.org. Applications must be submitted and received by the Chamber office no later than July 15 this year.

Truman Public Schools elementary awards will begin 1:30 p.m. Monday in the school auditorium, while the Truman High School awards (senior recognition) will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, also in the school auditorium.
