Easter Egg hunts this Saturday

SHERBURN — This week is Holy Week, the week before Easter. Area churches have scheduled special services. The tri-parishes of St. Luke’s in Sherburn, St. Joseph in Lakefield, and Good Shepherd in

Jackson, will have Maundy Thursday services at 6 p.m. and Good Friday services at 12:10 p.m. in Jackson. They will also have an Easter Vigil after dark on Saturday. Easter services will be held 8:30 a.m. Sunday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lakefield, and 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn. Regional Worship Center will have an Easter service at 10 a.m. and St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn will have Maundy Thursday services at 6 p.m. and Good Friday services at 6 p.m. There will not be a meal at these services like there were at Lenten services on Wednesday nights. They will have Easter services at 7 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. with a breakfast from 7:30-9:30 a.m. on Sunday morning. All area residents are welcome to join these congregations for their worship services.

St. John’s Lutheran Church is also the site for a special 80th birthday celebration for Ardys Manzey from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, April 16. Congratulations Ardys and our wish is for many more birthdays. Cards will reach her at BLC of Northfield, #114, 2030 North Ave., Northfield, MN 55057.

On Saturday there are several opportunities for children to do Easter Egg hunts in the area. Sherburn City Park will have a hunt at 9 a.m.;, and the city park in Dunnell will have one at 10 a.m.. Keck Park in Welcome will have their Easter Egg hunt at 9 a.m., and a hunt will take place 10:30 a.m. at Anderson Park in Trimont. Sounds like fun.

Sherburn Theatre will feature the movie “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” this weekend. Show times are 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Ruby’s Pantry will have a drive through grocery distribution from 5:30-7 p.m. Monday, April 18, at the Regional Worship Center just south of I-90 in Sherburn. For $22 each car will leave with a trunk full of boxes of groceries. They have usually had from 150-200 cars at other distribution dates. There is no resident guideline or income guideline.

Sherburn City Council will meet 6 p.m. Monday at the Sherburn City Hall. All members are urged to attend. A time for public questions and comments is always scheduled for the beginning of the meetings.

Condolences to the families of Robert Anderson and Joyce Laue who were former residents of Sherburn area. They will be missed.

Martin County West students will be golfing 4:30 p.m. Thursday at North Links Golf Club in North Mankato. The baseball and softball teams will be playing 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Welcome field. On April 21, the softball team will have a game at 4:30 p.m. at the Welcome field, and the baseball team will travel to St. Clair for a 4:30 p.m. game. The golf team will play at 4:30 at Terrace View. Good luck MCW students.

The senior class from MCW will return from their trip on Saturday. School will be in session on April 14, and then it will be spring break through April 18, with school again in session on April 19. CER will be scheduling summer ball soon, watch for information.

Upcoming events include:

• A CREST ‘Lunch & Learn’ event will be held 11 a.m. on April 20, at First Lutheran Church in Trimont. This is free for all Martin County residents. Donations for the meal are appreciated.

• Sherburn Lions Club will have a prime rib supper from 5-7:30 p.m. on April 23, at the Sherburn Legion. Tickets are available from any Lions member, Ringnell Insurance, Amborn Lumber or Bank Midwest.

• Sherburn Fire Department will have a pancake feed from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on April 24, at the fire hall in Sherburn. Mark these fundraisers on your calendar and plan to attend.

* Trimont will have city-wide rummage sales from April 21-23.
