Council approves Rescue Plan funds

SHERBURN-- The Sherburn City Council met on Monday evening and approved the $14,000+ from the American Rescue Plan (Covid money). They will use some of it for body cameras for the Sherburn/Welcome Police.

The meeting continued with discussion about the Sherburn Liquor Store expenses report they asked for at the last meeting. They will ask the store to use the inventory program and compare the revenue report and expense report and plan a budget.

City Administrator, Brad Hughes, reported on the upcoming street improvement project. The date has been moved up to April 14 since the State DOT has to approve the improvements plan because the street improvements connect to Highway 4, a state road. The price of any oil product has risen lately and the road is bituminous, which is an oil-based product. He also reported that the Highway 4 project is deferred to 2024.

The fate of the bike trail project connected to that Hwy project was discussed. Mayor Roessler asked if any council member would be willing to sit on the Task Force Committee and attend the meeting on May 5. Karlee Miller volunteered. The DNR, Jackson Trails

committee, engineers, Fox Lake Conservation League, and others are interested in making a bike trail from Sherburn to St. James. The trail must be wide enough to accomodate an emergency vehicle. Several ideas have been put forth from those interested.

The City cemetery (south side of Sherburn near St. John’s Church) will be chaired by Danelle and Tony Peters who will keep records of lots and sales of lots and other paper work.

The next meeting of the Sherburn City Council is scheduled for 5 p.m. on April 18 at the Sherburn City Hall.
