Reassurance for property values offered

SHERBURN -- The Sherburn City Council met Monday evening. The first order of business on the regular agenda for the council was to approve the advertisements for bids for the 2022 street projects now that MnDOT has approved the specifications. Advertisements have started.

Richard Cauwells reported that the building north of the Sherburn Theatre was not acceptable because of water leaks, uneven floor, and the door not opening. He said the maintenance was higher than he wanted to spend. He would like to place a shed on some

property. The council discussed some property that may be available and will help him to contact owners.

The council discussed the recent property values hike from the County. They reassured residents that they would not have to pay more in taxes unless the County raises or the City levies are higher than now. The council and Mayor are available for discussion about

the taxes.

As part of the Administrator’s report the date for city-wide cleanup day was scheduled for May 14, 2022. There will be curbside pick-up this year for a fee. Tags can be purchased at the city hall and attached to the items on the curb. Each $20 tag is for a pile 10 feet by 5 feet by 4 feet high. Items can be hauled to the back of city hall for free by Sherburn residents only. Electronics and appliances can be brought to the city hall and a fee will be acessed. Watch for a list of things accepted and not accepted.

Sherburn Liquor Store revenue was up for January and February. The expenses are being tabulated. The council will contact the software company for a complete and correct list of expenses.

The City Administrator discussed the hydrants that will be cleaned each month.

The Temperance Lake Ridge report showed occupancy at 95 percent and profitability was good. Maintenance and depreciation need to be taken into account too.

The next meeting of the Sherburn City Council will be held 5 p.m. Monday, April 4, at Sherburn City Hall.
