Guest speaker coming to Opera House

FAIRMONT– “A Night with Scott Neil: An Everyday Hero” will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7 at the Fairmont Opera House. The event is being put on by Sweet Financial.

Miranda Tulowetzke of Sweet Financial said, “After the 9/11 attacks, he was on a special forces team and was one of the first of 12 people into Afghanistan.”

She said Neil will talk about his mission, coming back and turning the impossible into the possible.

As this year marked the 20th anniversary of 9/11, the event is timely.

“Scott will be presenting to students at Fairmont High School on Tuesday afternoon and then to the community that night,” Tulowetzke said.

While the event is free, Tulowetzke said, “if people want they can donate to the Martin County Veterans Service Office or to the Martin County Beyond the Yellow Ribbon.”

Tulowetzke said Sweet Financial is matching donations up to $5,000 to each charity. She shared that the American Legion Post 36 has donated $2,500 to Martin County Beyond the Yellow Ribbon.

This is not the first time Sweet Financial has brought in a guest speaker to the community. Tulowetzke shared that two years ago they brought in Chris Gardener, author of “Pursuit of Happyness,” and last year they offered a virtual event with Andre Norman.
