TRUMAN — St Johns Lutheran Church of Antrim will be having their 6th annual beef commercial dinner from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5. There is limited seating and offering to-go-meals. You’ll receive your beef commercial, corn, coleslaw and sugar cookie, all for a free-will donation. If you would like to pre-order a homemade apple, blueberry, cherry or pecan pie, your order is due by Wednesday, Dec. 1. Pies are also a free-will donation. You may drop your lights or cords (no cord adapters or battery packs) off at Truman City Hall, Trinity Lutheran Church or St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Have you considered starting a food business out of your home but are at a loss where to start? Join University of Minnesota Extension Food Safety Educators, Kathy Brandt and Suzanne Driessen, at a Cottage Food Producer food safety training webinar or take the online course. Both the webinar and online course meet the Minnesota Department of Agriculture food safety training requirements to register as a Minnesota Cottage Food Producer. Once registered, you will be able to make and sell homemade non potentially hazardous foods including baked goods, candy, home-canned peaches, pickles, salsa, jams, jellies, and more. The specific conditions that must be met to qualify as an allowable Minnesota cottage food will be thoroughly covered. Participants learn how to produce, package, label, store, and transport a safe food product. Many details of the CFL will be covered including who needs to register, where allowed cottage food can be sold, and the maximum gross yearly sales allowed. Registration and $50/person fee are required. Truman Sorority hopes to host its annual Santa Shopping Spree on Dec. 14. They would appreciate donations of some nice men’s woman’s and kids’ gifts. Elementary students from across Martin County will be teaming up for an energetic robotics competition from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 4, in the gymnasium at Truman High School. Spectators of all ages are welcome to witness this fun application of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in our community. This Martin County KnowHow! VEX IQ Robotics Competition will see dozens of 5th and 6th graders from Truman, Fairmont, Martin County West, and Granada-Huntley-East Chain school districts working together to face a friendly collaborative challenge. These students will have spent several weeks building and learning how to operate their VEX IQ robots and are ready to put their hard work to the test at this exciting STEM event. Light concessions (a fundraiser for Truman Pride) will be available for sale at this free event.
