Christmas open house on Friday

SHERBURN -- Hope you and yours have a Happy Thanksgiving. Please drive safely. If you are gathering with family, remind those who went to Sherburn School that there is an all-school reunion on June 18, 2022, at the city park in Sherburn, so they can adjust their vacation time and plan to attend. Next Wednesday will already be the month of December.

Sherburn Nursery and Floral will have a Christmas open house from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 26, with ideas for decorating and new gift ideas and items. This should help everyone to get into the Christmas spirit. Refreshments will be served and everyone may register for a door prize. The Mayo Mobile Clinic will be parked behind the Sherburn City Hall from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1. To make an appointment for this mobile clinic, please call (507) 238-8500.

After a short Thanksgiving break, MCW athletes will be busy. Girls basketball will have games at 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the high school. The gymnastics team will meet 6 p.m. Tuesday at LivFit in Fairmont. Boys basketball will have games at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 2, and Saturday, Dec. 4, in Trimont. The wrestling team will be at a tournament 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, in Blue Earth.

There will be after school swimming lessons on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, beginning December 2 to December 14. Did you get registered?

MCW schools will have an early dismissal on Wednesday, Dec. 1, for a teacher's workshop.

MCW Elementary School 5th and 6th graders robotics team will compete at a Martin County Know How STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) event on Dec. 4 in Truman. They have been building and learning how to operate VEX IQ robots for

weeks. Good luck.

Condolences to the family of Karson Janssen, who passed away last week. He was from rural Sherburn and was a 2020 MCW graduate. He is gone too soon and will be missed.

There will be a Christmas Lunch and Learn event 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, at the Senior Citizen's building in Sherburn. The program will feature Christmas fun and games and the lunch will be some good Christmas food. This event is open to anyone in Martin County. A free will donation will be accepted for the meal.

Wednesday is also the night for Hamburger Night from 5-8 p.m. at the Sherburn Legion from 5-8 p.m. with grilled burgers and all the fixings, salad and baked beans for $8.

There will be a free movie for area children in 6th grade or under at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at the Sherburn Theater. The movie is "Luca" and Santa may also make an appearance. This event is sponsored by the Sherburn Civic and Commerce Club.
