Leaf pick-up this week

SHERBURN – This is the second week of leaf pick up in Sherburn. Please have leaves to the curb by 7 a.m. Please do not mow the leaves as this includes grass clippings and that plugs up the vacuum. Any questions call Sherburn City Hall at (507) 764-4491.

There will be a ‘Lunch and Learn’ event 11 a.m. today at the Sherburn Senior Citizens building. The topic and lunch are mysteries this time. This is available for anyone from Martin County free of charge sponsored by CREST.

Tonight is ‘Hamburger Night’ from 5-8 p.m. at the Sherburn Legion. They will serve a grilled hamburger with all the fixings, a salad and beans for $8. Other upcoming events at the Legion are the Veterans Supper on Nov. 11, and the Lion’s Club prime rib supper on Nov. 20.

Sherburn Theatre will feature the movie ‘Ron Gone Wrong’ about a boy and his robot friend at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Condolences to the families of Ardis Brolsma and Darlene Roebbeke who passed away this week. They will be missed.

Don’t forget to turn your clocks back one hour next Sunday, Nov. 7, to go back to Central Standard Time. This is a sure sign of fall.

There will be a Red Cross blood drive from 1-6 p.m. Monday at the Regional Worship Center in Sherburn. They ask that you make an appointment by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767), go online to www.redcrossblood.org or text BLOODAPP to 90999.

Locations of blood drives and other information can also be checked out at these sites. Blood is especially needed now and one donation could save as many as three lives.

Martin County West School news includes the news that the fall musical will have to be postponed until April and be the spring musical ‘Addams Family’ from April 1-3 at the Sherburn Theatre. They will continue to practice and make sets and look forward to seeing their audience in person.

Girls gymnastics and Jr. High boys basketball will begin on Monday, Nov. 8. Another sure sign of fall.

Parent-teacher conferences are planned for Nov. 16 and 18.

Lifeguard certification training is available Nov. 20-21 at the Jackson Pool. Sign up before Nov. 10 by calling Mrs. Viesselman at (507) 764-3651 or Ms. Haar at (507) 847-5030. Applicants must be 15 years of age by Nov. 21 and wish to work as a lifeguard at area pools.
