Truman makes move on ‘Old Grocery Store’

TRUMAN– On Monday evening the Truman City Council considered a proposal to sell the old grocery store at 141 Ciro W. in downtown Truman.

The council received an offer from Jason Mau of FAST Ride Share. FAST would initially be using the building as an office and a transfer station for its courier and delivery service.

“I don’t think that was in the majority of our minds to see it go in there,” Council member Jake Ebert said of the business.

Council member Brandon Mosloski pointed out that the city hasn’t done anything with the building and is collecting zero revenue on it, so getting it back on the tax roll is a benefit.

Ebert said the longer the city has it, the more problems the building will accumulate. The building has been unoccupied for about 10 years.

In his proposal, Mau said he has walked through the building with the city administrator and noticed several problems that will need to be addressed, including lack of power, the need for a new furnace and air conditioning unit and a new roof.

“It would be nice to get more money for it, but I think we should take any offer we can get,” said Ebert.

Ebert also said he realizes that a lot of money will need to be spent fixing up the building.

FAST offered $1,5000 for the building as it is and said it will not accept any counter offers due to the current condition of the building.

“Our loss is his gain and hopefully we all gain from it,” said Ebert.

The council accepted the proposal from Jason Mau with FAST Ride Share.
