Truman looks for new city clerk

TRUMAN– The Truman City Council looked over applications for the city clerk position during its meeting on Monday. The council recently accepted the resignation of city clerk Amy Huber in an emergency meeting. Huber’s last day was Oct. 19.

The council reviewed three applications Monday evening. Council member Patty Truax said that none of the applicants have a municipality background, but said that at least one has some accounting experience.

Council member Brandon Mosloski said he thinks an interview and hiring committee needs to be formed, which would include long-time former city clerk, Monte Rohman, Huber, deputy clerk/utility billing specialist, Thea Boesch and several council members.

“We have to get started and go,” said council member Brian Nickerson.

In reviewing the applicants, Mosloski said he wasn’t overly excited about any of them, but said that sitting down and talking with the applicants would help.

“You need to have people who work the job, they know the answers and what it’s going to take,” said Nickerson.

“We can certainly send them (Rohman and Huber) the applications and have them review them, but we need to have something set up soon,” said Mosloski.

The council decided to check in with Rohman and Huber to see when they’re available for interviews. Both Truax and Nickerson said they’ll make themselves available for interviews in the next week.

“We have to keep it moving,” said Mosloski.

The new clerk would be Truman’s fifth in the past few years. Rohman retired at the end of 2018 after serving 36 years. Bethanie Ekstrom took his place in 2019 and held the position through the spring of 2020 when Thea Boesch was hired as city clerk. Boesch later transitioned into her current role and the city clerk position remained empty until Huber was hired in March of this year.

Boesch has been acting as city clerk since Huber’s exit two weeks ago, but also has her own duties as utility billing specialist and deputy clerk.

Starting at $2.99/week.
