Welcome looks at food shelf

WELCOME– Welcome City Council met Tuesday evening and approved sending a letter to Heaven’s Table encouraging cooperation with a project to bring a food shelf to Welcome once a month. The food shelf has had residents going to Fairmont and taking public transportation to get to there. They would like to offer food in Welcome so the participants would not have to travel. Heaven’s Table had a successful project like this in Ceylon and feel it would be worthwhile in Welcome. They will plan to apply for grants to make it possible. The tentative location would be St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Welcome. Watch for further news if the project is granted.

In other news, Minnesota Valley Action Counsel will help residents that have a need to get help with their water bill using monies granted to them. If any resident in Welcome needs help to pay their water bill contact the city clerk at (507) 728-8740 for further information about applications.

The council also approved removing the maple tree on First Street that has many branches missing per a request from a resident.

The water main repair by 5th Street may be started next week as reported by Travis Winter of Bolton and Menk Engineers.

There will be a Halloween ’Trunk and Treat’ for children on Sunday, Oct. 31, from 2-5 p.m. on Dugan Street between First and Second Street. Treats will be distributed from trunks of cars parked at that location along with fun activities for the children.
