MCW Homecoming this week

This week is Homecoming Week at Martin County West High School. There will be a homecoming parade at 2 p.m. with coronation at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, at the football field. On Saturday the homecoming football game will be held at 7 p.m. with MVL. The Senior Class is having a fundraiser Chili Feed Saturday also. A good supper and a good football game sounds like a fun evening and helps a good cause.

The Sherburn Theatre will show the new Clint Eastwood movie this weekend called Cry Macho. Tickets are $5 and show times are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday night and 4 p.m. on Sunday.

St. John’s Lutheran Church Youth Ministry will have a Dad’s Belgian Waffle feed fundraiser from 9 a.m. to Noon Sunday, Sept. 19. The menu includes waffles, sausage, juice, coffee and milk. A free will donation will help the youth ministry group raise funds for a trip to the National Youth Gathering in Houston, Texas in July 2022.

Suggested donation is $8 per plate, $6 per plate for children 5-11, and five and under free.

The Assembly of God Regional Worship Center hosts Monday breakfasts 8-10 a.m. every Monday at the church in Sherburn. They also host a Wednesday night supper at 6 p.m. followed by a service/Bible study at 7 p.m. Children in K-6th grade are invited to go to King’s Kids for activities and fun learning. The meal’s costs are free will donation and everyone is invited.

There will be a Ruby’s Pantry Distribution, for a $20 donation, 5:30- 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 20, at the Regional Worship Center’s parking lot. This is a drive through distribution. Volunteers will place the bundles of food in your trunk, so make sure it is empty. Ruby’s

Pantry Distributions are for anyone that is looking to extend their monthly grocery budget. There is no income or residency requirement.

The Sherburn City Council will meet 5 p.m. Monday at the city hall. All members are urged to attend. There is always a time for public comments/questions at the beginning of each meeting with no reservations. Martin County West School Board is scheduled to meet 6:30 p.m. Monday, at the elementary school/ district offices board room.

Community Options and Resources will celebrate Direct Support Professionals Week this week. They have several group homes in Sherburn and three other communities. There are over 65 Direct Support Professionals employed by COR and they would like to recognize their dedication and service especially through the pandemic and following.

Congratulations to St. Luke’s Catholic Church who celebrated their 100th Anniversary last Week Sept. 11th with special services. The congregation is reminded that they will go back to their fall schedule of services at 10:30 a.m. on Sundays and 8:30 a.m. on Wednesdays, beginning Oct. 3rd through December.

Congratulations to Amborn Lumber who will celebrate 50 years of service to Sherburn and the area this year on Sept. 24.

Sherburn All School Reunion is being planned for June 18, 2022, Iin conjunction with the Sherburn Festival. Plan vacations accordingly and spread the word to family and friends. There is a facebook page set up for updates.
