Welcome City Council looks at budget

WELCOME–The Welcome City Council discussed the proposed 2022 budget changes during Tuesday evening’s meeting. The city clerk expressed that there are not a lot of changes. The Utilities budget may go up and there is a demolition fund item. The police salaries may have an increase and health insurance was discussed. The council will discuss the budget further as the end of the year approaches.

The BevComm proposal for voice and fiber internet for the office, fire hall, and shop was discussed and tabled for further information

and changes suggested.

Since the November meeting falls on election day the council approved changing the Nov. 2 date to Wednesday, Nov. 3.

There was a proposal to buy the old scrapped water meters but the council told city employee, Max Longley, to take them to Pooley Scrap Metal, sell them and put the money into the water fund. Longley reported that the mowing was all done in one day with the rented and owned mowers. He suggested looking at purchasing a new bush hog-type mower that discharged in the rear. It may cost $70,000+. The city employee was asked to get quotes for a replacement he may need eventually.

The next meeting of the Welcome City Council will be Sept. 21 at 6 p.m. at city hall.
