Man faces burglary charge

FAIRMONT — A Lake Crystal man is facing a felony charge in Martin County. Zachary John Brandt, 33, has been charged with one count of burglary in the first degree. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $35,000 fine.

According to the complaint:

At approximately 9:04 p.m. on February 14, and officer with the Fairmont Police Department responded to a call from a female party who indicated that Brandt had been at the home of another female party. The officer verified that there was a current Domestic Abuse No Contact Order prohibiting Brandt from having contact with the second woman.

The officer spoke with the first woman, who advised that she had been on the phone with the second woman. The second woman stated that Brandt was in her house and would not leave. The first woman indicated Brandt also had contact with the second woman at her residence.

The first woman indicated that the other woman and herself had been visiting when Brandt showed up and got into the second woman’s face. She indicated Brandt and the second woman shoved each other back and forth.

The officer then spoke with the second woman, who advised that Brandt was inside of her house when she arrived home from being at a friend’s house. She indicated she believed Brandt got into the house through the front door, which had been screwed shut. She indicated she told Brandt to leave and he refused.

The officer made attempts to locate Brandt, but was unsuccessful.

On February 17, 2021, the officer again spoke with the first woman, who advised that the second woman had called her and told her Brandt was inside of her home when she arrived. She stated she could hear Brandt in the background saying he wanted to get some of his “stuff” out of the house. She indicated she heard what sounded like Brandt and the second woman struggling over the phone and that the phone then disconnected.
