Man charged with multiple felonies

FAIRMONT — A Fairmont man is facing multiple felony charges in Martin County. Cary Charles Wiederhoeft-Weihe, 54, has been charged with two counts of firearms violation being a felon previously convicted crime of violence. Each charge carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine.

Wiederhoeft-Weihe is also charged with two counts of drug possession in the fifth degree. Each charge carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the complaint:

On February 1, 2021, a Fairmont Police officer obtained a search warrant for a residence in the 400 block of North Dewey Street. The officer, along with other law enforcement agents, executed that search warrant. Upon entering the house, officers encountered Wiederhoeft-Weihe, and were aware that he was a convicted felon.

During the search of the residence, officers discovered two firearms in plain view in the basement. These included a 12-guage shotgun and a .22 caliber rifle. The basement contained some of the property of Wiederhoeft-Weihe’s property, in addition to the property of other individuals.

In a bedroom identified as belonging to Wiederhoeft-Weihe, officers discovered a digital scale containing meth, a plastic baggie containing meth, a small glass vial containing meth, a plastic baggie containing psliocybin mushrooms, and drug paraphernalia.

Wiederhoeft-Weihe has a conviction for felony controlled substance crime in the fifth degree in 2012, and two convictions for felony controlled substance crime in the fifth degree in 2017. Each of these is a crime of violence under Minnesota law.
