Fairmont contest is interactive

FAIRMONT — We might not have a white Christmas, but the holiday will be bright, thanks to the lighting contest in the city.

“Let Your Light Shine,” a holiday lighting contest co-sponsored by the city of Fairmont and the Fairmont Area Chamber of Commerce, drew 22 residential entries. A three-member panel currently is judging the competition, and winners will be announced Monday on the sponsors’ Facebook pages.

The top four places will receive Chamber gift certificates, redeemable at any Martin County business. The residential contest will award a grand prize of $150, second place of $75, third place of $50 and fourth place of $25.

People can access an interactive map of participating homes at www.fairmont.org/lights. Each entrant is designated by a red Christmas bulb. Clicking on the bulb will zoom in to show the home’s address as well as a map of the home’s location. The map was designed by the city’s engineering department.

Each of the participants will receive a bag of holiday goodies that was delivered Friday.

The contest also was open to commercial entries, but no businesses opted to participate.
